So, they're sharing a room - the Colonel and Hawkeye, I mean, not Mei, 'cause the Colonel can't use his hands yet, so she's helping him..."
"His hands?" Ed tried to remember.
"It's how they forced him to do it," Al whispered. "They pinned him down so he couldn't move."
Ed fought back nausea. The sense of wrong, wrong, wrong pervaded every sense of his being. How the fuck was any of that equivalent exchange?'

He basically gained immortality. Others kill to have even a lick of it, but not Ed. That’s why Truth did it. Because the loss of his mortality was significant enough to be accepted as equivalent.

Truth has a favor to ask. One of impossible magnitude. Transdimensional Travel in return for his little brother's body. Really, did Ed even have an option in the first place? It was too good to be true, he knew, but what if he never got a chance like this again? What if something happened before he could get Al's body back? He didn't want him to live the rest of his life in an unfeeling suit of cold armor. He'd rather die a thousand deaths then let Al continue on like that for any longer than he had to. It was Ed's fault Al was stuck like that, so Ed was going to be the one to fix it, no matter the cost.
There isn't anything he wouldn't do for his little brother.

Ed is currently not having such a great time. He is fifteen years old, and lots of shit has happened. Apart from the obvious (his sins from the past, Automail, You took him, bastard, give my brother back!-, he is moving on), Maria Ross was just killed by his superior officer, a serial killer nearly murdered him and his brother, Nina is still dead, there are homunculi, and there is this prince of Xing that eats way too much (and isn't attractive at all, mind you). Yes, the latter is the most traumatizing, because who eats that much? That can't be healthy or normal, it's even more than Ed eats!
He's just rambling here, because of course that's not the main issue. That award goes to something else. That something being wizards. Yes, you heard right. Wizards.Or: Truth is a dick. And a kidnapper. Ed is literally so angry that he can't press charges against God. That asshole deserves the firing squad.

Even with the chaos of his service behind him, Ed is a loose cannon that even the Fuhrer himself can’t cover for anymore. There have been calls for his discharge, honourable and dishonourable, calls for him to be awarded, dismissed, arrested, even killed. The country is divided, and Ed is quickly becoming a symbol of unrest. Even now, he is the Hero of the People. Once upon a time, when Ed could defend himself, his metal hulk of a brother, and any civilians that found themselves in the crossfire, that was fine. Things are different now.
The Führer might just have an answer for him: a mission that can make him disappear. All Ed's gotta do is keep his head down and his mouth shut, spy on the wizards, and he can come back when it all dies down.
