We have encountered two co-dependent species during their mating season. In order to establish trade for parts we so desperately need, I have made an agreement with this planet's high priest to save one of their allies, a jellyfish-like creature capable of intelligent thought. Unfortunately, this agreement requires we find her a companion to mate with.
And Lieutenant Tuvok is the only one capable of the task.

Jim catches Spock by the shirt sleeve. Their skin doesn't touch, but the mere proximity pulls at Spock's attention, his heightened senses no doubt firing alarms of all kinds.
Jim releases him once they're standing face-to-face again. "Spock, while I do enjoy our games very thoroughly, I had...something else in mind."

They've been there Jim's entire life. Flowers and flora bursting from his skin in stripes and bundles where his soulmate's skin bleeds. It's not unusual by any means. Nearly everyone gets flowers by their early years, sometimes even newborns, if they're so unlucky. They disappear with time, of course, but it's become a celebrated milestone in a human's life. Like learning to walk or talk.
But the thing about Jim's flowers, is they aren't from Earth. They're from Vulcan.

“This is it,” Naomasa confirmed. From the folder, he pulled a slip of paper and a familiar card and handed them to Toshinori, “With this, you can join the investigation in an official capacity.”
Toshinori ran his thumb across the face of the updated card.
He bowed his head, breathing a shaky sigh of relief as a knot of tension unraveled in his chest. He smiled and slipped his tail around Naomasa, squeezing gently, “Thank you.”
Naomasa huffed a soft laugh and pat Toshinori’s shoulder.

Summary
While attempting to infiltrate and disband Atillius, one of the galaxy's most brutal and notorious alien gladiator rings, Spock and McCoy are taken and trafficked into the organization.
Kirk and the rest of the crew manage to rescue them months later, but when they do, they find that neither of them are the same anymore.

"The healers told him that the psyche was a delicate thing, that it might be hard to understand exactly what was going on in his first officer's head after such intense trauma.
Jim thought it wasn’t hard to understand at all. It was quite simple when you looked at it this way; Spock, forced to fight to the death for his and McCoy's life day after day, had lost his mind in the process. He'd become Atillius's perfect killing machine, and in the end, it had driven him insane."

The rookie is determined to sit up, reaching out like he could drag Chris to Claire through sheer force of will now that they've met, and Chris has to place a firm hand on his chest to keep him from rising. "Tell me she made it."
They stare at each other. Chris feels his heart break and reform in his chest.
He's lying there, displaced in time, bleeding with an infected gunshot wound, and he's asking after Claire.
It's so Leon that it hurts.
