Summary
The Squawk had become their cover, their communication hub, their war room. Robin did the actual broadcasts mostly playing music and reading pre-written community updates approved by the military presence in town, but the real purpose was the coded messages. Steve had helped her set up the whole system, spending hours figuring out how to get all the sound effects she wanted, taping things to walls and attempting to MacGyver random things around the station.
That was just who Steve was, but looking around the room now, Robin wondered more and more if anyone else actually saw that.

At some point, Eddie’s hand had made its way to Steve’s bad knee, massaging it gently in soothing circles. It was like magic, the way the deep ached subsided just enough for Steve’s posture to slump. He felt like putty under Eddie’s fingertips. Tension melted away from him as Eddie continued his work over his kneecap to the beginning of his thigh. He couldn’t help but close his eyes and let out a contented sigh.
“Do you want me to stop?” Eddie asked quietly.
“Huh?”
“Steve,” Eddie whispered. “Do you want me to stop?”

He twists his mouth up at the side. It doesn’t quite land on a smirk—he can feel the way it wobbles. If Harrington notices, he doesn’t call him on it.
With a roll of his eyes, Harrington responds, “like you said, no people means no help, means you’re all I’ve got.”

Summary
The year is 2001. The Fellowship of the Ring is out in theaters, and Steve is being dragged along to the supposed most important day of Dustin's life.
The thing is, Eddie Munson's coming, too, and Steve hasn't spoken to him in nearly six years. Not since misaligned feelings and an ill-timed love confession created a rupture Steve didn't know how to repair.
“We just drifted apart, man. That’s all.”
Dustin sighs dramatically. “Was it because you figured out you liked dudes and freaked out?”
Steve winces. It’s a joke. He can tell by Dustin’s tone, knows he likes to poke fun about Steve’s sexuality after he identified as a self-proclaimed ladies' man for so long, but it’s never come up this way before. Steve could deflect, but something in him shifts and instead he says, “More like because I figured it out too late.”
“Ooooooh,” Dustin breathes, and Steve can all but imagine the lightbulb flashing to life above his head. It makes Steve think of Dustin’s old hat with THINKING CAP on the front. “Oh my god, that makes so much more sense."

“This is our livelihood, Chris," Eddie says. "The Harringtons don’t give a shit about us peasants. We have to stay on top of our game if we want The Book Cellar to survive longterm.”
“We’re going to be okay,” Chrissy repeats firmly.
Except Eddie knows that small business bookstores have dropped like flies because they can’t compete with Harrington Books and other big-name store prices. Eddie’s about to whine some more when he feels his phone vibrating. His stomach does a little bit of a flip, but he tries to play it cool as he stands up nonchalantly and places Chrissy’s phone in front of her before digging his own out of his pocket.
She figures it out anyway. Eddie needs to practice his nonchalant face more.
“Is it Scoops?” Chrissy asks and grins into her cup when Eddie shoots her a scathing look.
“You’re incorrigible.”
“So it is Scoops!”
Eddie rolls his eyes and unlocks his phone. The message is indeed from scoopsahair, his internet friend.

This guy sure looks like Steve, if he was older and with an impressive scruff of beard. But this guy’s muscled, with jagged scars peppering the skin not covered by his t-shirt. Surely it can’t be.
“Holy hell,” Robin breathes. “Time shit.”

Steve opens the passenger door for Robin and she feigns a glare at him as she swings herself into the car.
“I’m definitely gonna kill you before we get there,” she says with a matter-of-fact nod, shoving her duffle bag through the gap between the two front seats so it tumbles backwards onto the floor.
“Can’t do that,” Steve counters as he neatly slides his own suitcase beside her bag. He waits until he’s sitting in the driver’s seat to say,
“If you kill me, there’ll be no one to drive you to Hawkins and then you’ll never see Nancy.”
Had it not been dark outside, Steve would have been able to see Robin’s face turn a brilliant shade of red.
“Steve,” she growls, “Shut up.”

Summary
Steve Harrington was losing his mind.
At least, he's pretty sure that’s what was happening, considering he kept seeing the ghost of a boy he let die, and it was starting to drive him actually crazy, in the Pennhurst kind of way.
Except.
Except he’d also always been a little bit gullible, always willing to jump into danger, to look at a situation that probably would be crazy and instead of turning and running, to drive right in. So instead of dealing with the ghost the way one probably should (which is to ignore it and maybe buy some holy water) Steve does the opposite.
And Eddie Munson, who is pretty sure he is not a ghost, is, as always, really fucking glad he does.

Vecna is dead. Fried crispy, by all accounts. But that doesn't mean the Upside Down is done yet.
Steve, however, has other problems. Now that the Party made it out with everyone alive, his brain has developed the habit of reminding him that Eddie Munson exists. And that Steve might have a capital 'T' thing for him. A thing that is not capital 'P' platonic. Which he can totally handle. It's not like he'll do anything stupid, Steve knows better. Call him: Steve 'Rational' Harrington.
Maybe he should be thankful that they get a few months to figure out life again before it all goes to shit. Until he gets the phone call that drags him into the thick of it again. But maybe this is the last time. God, Steve really hopes this is the last time.
