Summary
Zuko had grown up on the stories.
Stories of how the royal family was cursed by the spirits long ago, for a sin long forgotten, or at least not spoken of. Of how even Avatar Roku, the first fire-born avatar in hundreds of years, thanks to Kiyoshi and Yangchen's long lives, would not lift the curse. Of how even their self-defense against the Air Army was looked on with disfavor by the spirits, who redoubled their curse. Of how each generation, a royal heir, the second born, had been sacrificed to the dragons to appease the spirits.
Of how his Uncle Iroh killed the last dragon, saving not only his son, but his younger brother, and the whole country from them and the spirits' ire. Killed it single handed, when others of its ilk had taken small armies to down.
Except, it seemed that story wasn't entirely factual.
