Jesper had to keep himself from shifting uncomfortably from foot to foot as the piano player stared at him for a long moment, brow furrowed in concentration. “Oh yeah! You were the sparkly one,” he said, the realization dawning on his face. “With the- with the hat.”
Oh good, Jesper thought morosely, he remembers me. “Yeah,” he sighed. “That was me.”
Wylan plays piano in a bar and Jesper drunkenly flirts with him one night, then comes back sober to apologize. The rest, as they say, is history.

Inej takes a step forwards. Almost imperceptibly, Kaz winces. “Then what are you going to do?”
Finally, Kaz meet’s Inej’s gaze, and she knows the look in his eye: he is drawing himself up, strapping on his armor. He is steeling himself for pain.
“I’m going to go to Lij,” he says. “And you’re all coming with me.”

Or, when a job comes up in Lij, Kaz has to return home. He brings the only people he can trust on the journey with him.

Summary
After a traumatic event, Jesper and Wylan take a trip to Novyi Zem to heal and find comfort in one another again.
This is a 'spin-off' of sorts related to my longer SOC fic "The Pugilist's Creed". However, I did try to write this so that it could be read on it's own. There are a few references to events that happen in the longer fic, though, so if you like this and haven't read the other, go check it out!

Summary
On the bad days, Wylan hates himself. He would spend hours sitting on the floor, numerous open books sprawled out in front of him, trying to make sense of the print on them, trying to make sense of any word. He would feel the room closing in on him, and he would feel like he couldn’t breathe, like someone had punched him in the gut. He would hear his father’s words rattling around in his brain, ‘useless’ ‘stupid’ ‘you can’t even accomplish what a child of five can do with ease’ ‘how could anyone ever love someone like you?’. He couldn’t stop the voice speaking to him.
This was a bad day.
