Clearly, I’ve let you indulge too much in soft-bellied fantasies and the weak-natured world of women.” Stede’s eyes flicked to his mother who refused to meet his gaze. “No longer.” His father spat at him. “This stops today. You will learn to face your problems on your own. Or you can no longer call yourself my son.”
And with that Stede’s father spun on his heel and stalked away, his mother following dutifully.
Stede never did get that hug. And he never would again.
