Summary
The lights break as Rumi screams, glass raining down on the stage as their fans startle and cry out. The worst sight: Rumi, hair a mess and hands gripping her head, as her patterns—a bright lilac, spreading from her arm to her neck to her face and then down—grow further and further, more and more visible, with the only lights left focused on her.
She looks bad. A cornered animal, quickly realizing the trap has closed around it's leg.
And then she lifts her head, finds their eyes—and it's horror in her face. Fear. Pain.
Zoey watches her friend’s face crumble, how one of her eyes cries tears and the other, the one that's bright gold with a ragged pupil, cries blood.
She and Mira exchange a look, and Zoey knows. It's over. It's finally, finally over.
And it's on.
“What are you doing!? Turn on the second set! And focus the damn camera on me, damnit!” Mira barks, rushing to the stage as she materializes her polearm and, in a show of exemplary restraint, cuts her boot’s leg open and away, where patterns just like Rumi's rest.
Zoey grins, and sheds her jacket.

Summary
“AND you’re so comfy Rumi. I should sit on your lap more often.” Zoey emphasizes her point by getting more comfortable on her friend’s lap, adjusting as best she can.
“Zo! What are you?!” Zoey cuts Rumi off before she can finish that sentence as the younger girl leans forward, a glint of something catching her eyes.
“Rumi…? Do you have… fangs?”
The sudden squeal Zoey lets out doesn’t give Rumi anytime to answer before she has a mouthful of Zoey’s fingers in her mouth.
Zoey hadn’t noticed these before, but Rumi’s canines were sharpened into a point and stood out between the other teeth.
“Wow… They’re so… sharp.” She swallows as she gets even a better look, pushing her face mere inches away from the half demon.
OR
The Cruise au where Mira and Zoey constantly tease Rumi, and want her to relax since she’s a workaholic.

Zoey settles back down, head pillowed on Rumi’s soft chest once more. Her eyes close, and for a moment, the world narrows to the steady rhythm beneath her ear. “Your heart’s pounding.”
“I’m… Yeah.” Rumi admits softly, her fingers rise to weave through Zoey’s hair. “I’m not like you or Mira, is all.”
Zoey nuzzles closer, her breath warm against Rumi’s neck with a, “Not like us? What do you mean?”
“You know. I’m new to all of… this.” Her words come out quieter. “I’m slower, I guess. If that is still okay with you both?”
Zoey lifts her head then, meeting Rumi’s eyes— eyes that dart away, then back again on her, wide and uncertain. There’s so much softness in Zoey’s expression it almost aches to look at.
“Of course it’s okay, Ru. C’mon, you—” She wraps her arms around her, kissing her cheek. “You know that. Don’t be silly. I love you so much. Mira too. We love you.”—
OR, it’s movie night on a rainy evening, and Rumi still doesn’t quite know how to let herself love— not when she’s part human, part something else entirely. But Zoey’s warmth and the quiet safety of their shared space start to teach her what it means to be touched, seen, and wanted.

After everything, the girls talk. It's messy (there's crying and anger and fear and love), and it ends with a promise: No more lies. It's only afterwards that Rumi thinks of her visit to Celine, and she very promptly decides NOT to share that particular experience with Mira and Zoey, content to let that little snippet of time die quietly in her memories alone (and really, what harm can one more lie be?). But, as Rumi has found out recently, her secrets have a way of coming to light, whether she wants them to or not.

So... why was Rumi's second verse so different?

The author spends too much time analyzing tenses, and surely the other two had SOME QUESTIONS about Rumi's verse in Golden.

Mira is a shameless flirt and will do everything she can to make the pretty girl laugh, even if it means unwittingly bashing said pretty girl because she hasn't yet realized she's talking to Rumi, the headlining member of Huntrix.
