Summary
After finally being chased out of human territory for his thievery, Akaza has found himself stuck in dragon territory. Things really can't get much worse for him, so when a dragon offers to bring him home and give him a place to stay, why not accept? Even if he's going to be eaten, at least he can have a good night's sleep and decent meal first.
Kyojuro is enamored with the little human that has wandered into his territory, and with his rut right around the corner, he can't help but bring him home and decide to court him. Akaza is so receptive to it, he must be just as interested in Kyojuro as well!

Summary
After barely surviving a vicious attack, for reasons he can't explain, Kyojuro has moved hours away from his family and friends, to the very same area where he nearly died. No job, no one he knows, nothing except a multitude of chronic pains and issues. On top of that, his bizarre neighbors have decided they dislike him for reasons he doesn't understand. His fresh start isn't exactly going to plan.
It isn't long before a strange local takes an interest in him, and Kyojuro can't help but link him to the creature that almost killed him. As if he needed any other reason to feel like he's slowly losing his mind. But something about Akaza just doesn't feel right, and for all his neighbors' hostility, the Soyamas don't seem to want their estranged family member anywhere near him either.
All Kyojuro wanted was to move on, but the monster responsible for ruining him is refusing to let go.

Summary
While patrolling his region, Kyojuro finds and kills a demon. Nothing unusual, except this one has left something behind. A little half-demon girl has now been orphaned, and Kyojuro has no idea what to do with her.
Not that he has much time to decide, because Akaza is quick to declare that he will take her. Not that he cares about the brat, but he knows Kyojuro will be quick to pay more attention to him if this little girl is involved. The slayer will have to engage with him, if only to make sure the kid is still breathing.
Horrified but unable to stop Akaza, Kyojuro has no choice but to go along with the arrangement. He can only hope he manages to get the girl away from Akaza before it's too late and she ends up a monster in every sense of the word.

Akaza’s arm was soaked with the red, with the boy’s red.
As his crows descended from the branches, already eagerly approaching the slowly cooling body, his slick fingers slid against one another, balling into a fist.
“Leave it.” He snapped.
A stygian bird hopped forward, pecking at a ruptured intestine.
“I said leave it.”
A sharp black beak picked at the boy’s still gaping mouth, puncturing his lips, the pathetically thin skin of his inner cheek.
Akaza reached back and wrenched a branch from the nearest tree, the limb breaking off with a loud crack, and hurled it at the birds.
“I said leave him!”
Screeching, the birds took to the air, narrowly dodging the projectile as Akaza panted, chest heaving, just staring at the slumped body as his arm tingled and prickled and burned.

The child is great.) They are sweet and loving and supportive and there is nothing missing in their life. Nope! Nothing.
Nelliel and Grimmjow sure as hell aren't married, and never mind being respectable in any way, but they managed to breed somehow so they're gonna have to deal with that. As soon as they manage to deal with being jobless and evicted.
Surely those two people they had a pretty bad run-in with as teenagers are not going to be of any help, though... Oh.

The battle with Enmu takes just a few minutes longer, and Akaza doesn't manage to land the finishing blow on Kyojuro before sunrise. He's starving, and he doesn't care that a child watches their father die in front of them to satiate the hunger he feels.
He doesn't care until the child sees him as someone who is safer than her father.

“Um—” Akaza turns around to look at the girl, who was now back in the doorway. “Why did you…” he takes a second before he follows her gaze to the splattering of blood and brain matter.
“I was hungry,” he says simply, because it was just that. If he hadn’t been hungry, he might have not even cared to stop to look further into the house. “It’s as easy as that.”

Filled with misguided adoration and obsession, Akaza decides to break free from Muzan's curse in an attempt to win Kyojuro's favor. If being "good" and aiding humanity will gain his favor, Akaza will gladly do it.
Then the memories come rushing back. Then he remembers everything he used to be. He knows he does not deserve Kyojuro's love, but he can think of nothing except offering himself up to the slayer. Someone as righteous as Kyojuro will know the appropriate end for him, whether it be death, or to spend what time he has left atoning for what he's done.
But Kyojuro did not ask for this, and he does not know what to do with the chained, muzzled demon the Corps has ordered him to use as a weapon.
Especially when he is so different from everything he used to be.

“He’d never give up. He would become better than you, and then he’d kill you.” Quitting wasn’t ever an option for Kyojuro, ever. Senjuro shakes his head. “I’m not my brother though.” The pain and weight of that sentence runs deeper than Senjuro could ever hope to convey; Deeper than he cares to admit, even on the nights he lays awake, blanketed in his own failures.
“So you’re ready to give up then?”
“No,” he answers, more confidently than expected.
Akaza smirks. “Then perhaps you’re more similar to him than you realize.”
