Gaze wandering to the P-51 once again, drawn to the little plane like a moth to a flame. Pacing around it, putting a hand on it’s side.
“Well, aren’t you the prettiest damn thing, sweetheart?”
Because who was to know that Pete had started talking to the planes because Goose did? Emulating his brother in all but blood, taking confidence in a somewhat odd habit through the ensuing years.
Not noticing the tacky red fingerprints he left on the yellow paint as he hummed a nameless tune, pacing the plane’s perimeter, gauging what whoever owned the plane was up to. Peering into the opened belly of the plane to see the parts missing from the engine, standing on his tiptoes to see from another angle.
Only to be startled by the sound of something shattering behind him.

Summary
Maybe he really is like his father after all, Gale thinks, as if watching all of this from outside of his body. Seeing the man frown and gesture to one of the others after he sees the ‘5’ on Gale’s dog tags. Feeling himself pale as he sees the collar that’s handed over to the officer. His last fight response rising within him even as he forces himself to stay still, dropping his hands in his lap without being asked, feeling his breath speed up as the officer gives some sort of orders and his men force Gale’s arms behind his back in a prudent attempt to stop him fighting back.
Not giving them the satisfaction of a pained sound as his head was wrenched up and back by his hair, exposing his neck fully over the collar of his flight suit and other gear. Blinking up at the blue, blue sky that had always been his haven, so far, far away from him now, as the rough leather and metals of the collar rasp against the thin skin of his throat.
Gritting his teeth and closing his eyes against the prick of tears in the back of his eyelids as he was finally released. Hands raising to examine the collar, finger’s trembling, overcome with fear and emotional pain.

It wasn’t that prisoner drop off were uncommon, they’re been ferrying in new men about once every two weeks since Eoin had gotten to the Stalag — but a lone man in a half truck with a Gestapo escort was another thing entirely.
Not that Eoin is there to see the brouhaha for himself, since he’s started teaching Latin and basic English Common Law back to back on Wednesdays, he’s inside during the afternoon, more often then not. But by the way that he’s drawn out of his class by Ashley-Pitt, Big X’s second in command meeting them once they’re on their way to the gate, even he knows something is up.
“Not sure what the fuss is about,” MacDonald admits. “Something about the new prisoner.”
“But it’s the SS,” Pitt points out, narrowing his eyes at the guards waiting for them at the end of the double fenced entrance. “It’ll mean trouble, regardless.”

It had not taken long for Augustin Jordan to gather bits and pieces of the ghost which haunted Paddy Mayne.
After their less than stellar introduction he had been prepared to hate the man. But lilting words and gruff manners were a rough covering for a man with a broken heart. The Mad Irishman was a man who contained multitudes. Much to their benefit and the German’s detriment.
Sometimes Jordan wondered if he would ever fill at least a small part of the hole that Eoin McGonigal had left in the Major’s life, slipping into the cracks of Paddy’s soul. Because, when Paddy was promoted and given command after Stirling’s capture, Augustin was the one who stepped up to the plate, taking any advice Seekings could offer for the care and keeping of their CO. And what a task it was! Because it was clear what Paddy needed saving from more than anything was from the rabid grief he housed in his soul.

Eoin’s life had become a darker kind of poetry since that first mad drop into the flying sand and wind, down into the dessert that was insatiably hungry for blood and bones.
Made darker still by his friends absence, like Eoin was missing a limb, Paddy nowhere to be found. But he knew that Paddy would hate it where Eion now was, trapped behind wire and watched by German guards with itchy trigger fingers, aloof in their alleged superiority in just the way that would have had Paddy clenching his jaw and breaking more heads on pianos.

Doing calculations in his head as he watches the more sensible RAF men glance uneasily at each other and at their unruly comrade, Buck knows that this is going to devolve into a fight. The only question is with who and where and how many?
It can’t be Bucky, Gale decides, because he’s already much too drunk for Buck to allow it, and his Wingman is already being watched by the brass for his attitude around the base. Adding a citation in his records about drunken brawling could be the last straw.
“Why’d you have to go and say something like that?” Bucky asks, sounding almost put out.

Grunting again when his head was yanked back by the hair so he was looking up at Stromburg, who’d moved from around the desk, leaning against it.

This story sprung from my obsession with Bucky in the Dulag as well as the scars on Buck's cheeks. I've seen in other comments that Buck and Bucky were apparently held at the Dulag at the same time, in real life? So I thought, if that's so, why not take advantage of that fact.

World War II AU
All of our favorite pilots are in the Air Force, in this, instead of being Naval Aviators. While I know that's going against the grain a bit, it a lot easier to write a fanfic set in the European Theatre as opposed to the Pacific Theatre. The Pacific Front was brutal, and while I do enjoy studying Japanese, the Japanese Imperial Army was guilty of comparable to (and often worse crimes than) the Nazis. Having our favorite characters be Air Force Pilots as opposed to Naval Aviators frees up more story options, in my opinion, so I made the decision to change the Service Branch. I also think more is commonly known about the European Theatre than the Pacific Theatre, so most readers will be able to picture what I write much more easily this way. (I actually think some of this story may get modeled off of 'Masters of the Air.' While I haven't seen all of the show, I greatly admire the care and detail put into the production of said show.)
I'll be fudging historical details every once in a while, since this is just a story, at the end of the day, but I hope I do this AU justice.

And the smile that overcomes John’s face is a sight to see, lighting him up with pure boyish energy even under the horrific bruises on his face, bruises which trailed down under the collar of his jacket and disappeared into his flight suit.
“What took you so long?” Buck chastises, a soft smile on his face as Buck stumbles by them. Glancing back at where Curt stands pressed up against his back, pulling him under his arm and forward so Bucky can truly see him. “And guess who else’s been waiting for ya?”
Smiling fit to beat the band, Curt clings to the fence like he could dive through it and get to Bucky, the other man stumbling to a stop, jaw dropping open as he sees him for the first time in almost a year.

The title comes from a poem by the Russian poet Pushkin. I thought it fit the mood of this AU I've attempted to do justice to.

I've read my fair share of 'Character A get's de-aged and Character B has to take care of them' fics, and I wanted to try my hand at it. Though I think I've manipulated the premise a bit. Explanation: in this version of reality, the Change is a well known phenomenon — intense emotions can make people turn into children, if only temporarily. Two days at the most. Although it's not exactly common, because everyone would be absolutely useless if they turned into children every time they felt just a little bit sad. So the Change has to have happened because of a very serious source of stress. Such as the sudden death of a loved one, for example.
So when Jake brings up Goose to rile up Rooster and peripherally hurt Mav, Rooster gets so damn mad. Then suddenly — poof!! — little kid Bradley appears. Jake feels guilty about making the kid cry so hard. Maverick is in total dad mode of course.

Like he hadn’t known that in his bones. They ached within his skin, burdened by the ordeal of the last hour, the last day, the last year. What he wouldn’t give to be able to sleep. But he was not about to appear weak in front of his enemy, even though he accepted the cigarette, having refused the whiskey offered by the interrogator.
'Gotta keep your strength up, Buck,' he can hear Bucky’s voice in his ear. 'You gotta be alive to come back to me.'
So he sits there, and he takes it.

“It’s good to see you, Curt.” The soft rasp of the Major’s voice is like fingers over the harp of Biddick’s soul. Holding out a hand to shake.
“Hey, none’a that, now,” feeling that smile overtaken his face again, taking the hand for a shake and using it to pull Buck closer, to give him a hug he knows the other man needs but will never initiate or ask for.
When they pull back from each other, hands still locked in that handshake, neither of them mention the shadows they have lost.

“Sorry, man,” a flushed face said, features blurring around the edges from how much he'd drunk already, knowing he’d have to get a cab later.
“No problem,” he muttered, turning back to his drink. Dismissing it entirely. He had far bigger things to worry about, after all.
Though he would soon have bigger worries, because he hadn’t noticed the guy slip something into what was left of his double.

He’d seen the pictures of pilots who’d been impaled on branches, hanging like puppets from tangled marionette strings. So, as he plummeted towards the woods, not high enough to truly slow his descent, he braced himself.
This was going to hurt .
And it did.

“So what’ve you got?” The man asked rhetorically, sounding cool and collected as he ignored the pain he’d just caused and searched through Will’s back pockets, coming up empty. With an impatient noise, he took some of his weight off of Will, a firm hand pulling him around by his shoulder, shoving him back against the wall. Seeing the wisdom in not fighting, Will closed his eyes as the man unzipped his jacket, searching through the inner and outer pockets, giving a little noise of triumph as he came up with Will’s house keys, his wallet, and his phone.
Will shivered, his eyes again closing involuntarily as the man, features obscured by a winter cap and muffler pulled up high, laid the knife against his cheek, his own blood smearing on his face at the light pressure.

Please, please, please pay attention to the tags for this one! This is one of only two stories I've ever used the non-con/SA tags for. It's not incredibly explicit? But it is in the story. The second chapter should be avoided if you do not want to read anything in that category.
