The pale light above disappeared in a sudden rush of darkness, flooding the already pitch cavern in blackness like the void itself. A wave of unnerving silence swept over the abyss.
They could still see. They could still see how their siblings still climbed, how they still fell and broke their fragile frames on the sharp spikes and rocks below. Useless motions now that the light was gone, only filling the floor with the bodies of thousands of dead newly born lives.
Stop! The light is gone! STOP!
The others didn’t listen. They still climbed.

At least, it’s not how Briar remembered it happening when he read the books. Not that there was much he could remember about Harry Potter’s parents anymore. It had been years and they were such a small part. . .

I rub my eyes and glance at the clock on my phone, which reads 2:40AM. I have time for one more episode of One Piece. I tap on the screen to start the next one, but it won't play. I groan in frustration. Stupid, crappy internet! It never works when you really need it. Setting my phone down, I turn to roll out of bed, and my arm smacks into the wall.
Wait a minute… There shouldn't be a wall there. I try to sit up, and smack my head. It's hard beneath me, too. I slowly realize I'm in a wooden box. How the crap did I end up in a box?! I reach for my phone to turn on the flashlight. I pat around beside me. My phone is gone!
Okay. Okay. Don't freak out. I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for this.

There wasn't any liquid around the one she'd come from, though it had definitely felt like a flow of something had shoved her out. It had to have, because she definitely wasn't on the side with a large crack in it. Well, as large as she was. Which didn't look very large.
Instead, she was on the side with a reflection. Hers, presumably. It took a moment to recognize that fact for several reasons. The reflection that looked back at her was startlingly familiar, yet it was impossible.
Sharp notched horns on a big white head, big black saucer eyes and no other features. Small body wreathed in a gray cloak.
Her first thought was, Why?
Hollow Knight self-insert where I am the Hollow Knight, lack most of my memories, and resolve to make things better as much as I can using the knowledge I gained from my hyperfixation. Results may vary.
