Summary
It was just a normal morning.
The night before went the same as usual, Hua Cheng and Xie Lian holding each other as they drifted to sleep. Nothing out of the ordinary.
They braided each other's hair before going to sleep, hopefully to eliminate wasted time in the morning spent brushing each other's hair.
Nothing new, nothing different. Just a normal day. That’s why Hua Cheng spent the majority of his morning watching his husband sleep.
He watched his beloved’s chest rise and fall. He caressed Xie Lian’s pretty face as he slept, thankful his husband was a heavy sleeper when they laid next to one another.
He was so entranced by his husband's beauty he didn’t even notice the absence of a certain piece of cloth over his non-existent eye.
Or
Hua Cheng isn’t as sure of himself as he looks, and truly is just a coward that hides behind an eyepatch.
But his Gege is there to prove him wrong.

“Maybe so,” Xie Lian agrees, “but San Lang married a prince, did he not?” His hand with the red string tied around it travels down to where his coral earring is braided into Hua Cheng’s hair. He kisses the end of the braid before continuing, “Doesn’t that make San Lang my princess?”

The air was thick with the scent of iron, the scent of blood. It was dripping down, coating the beautiful bed and its silk sheets. It covered Hua Cheng as well, his already red robes darkening. His face was obscured by his hands, but blood could still be seen between slender fingers. He Xuan knew those slender fingers well. They were beautiful, a sculptor’s fingers, an artist’s. Those fingers had gently brushed back his hair, they’d cradled his face and wiped away his tears. They’d held him down, they’d pinned his hands above his head. Those fingers were careful, intelligent and graceful.

This was true, even after they married. However, what Xie Lian wanted today was much different—in fact, it almost caused Hua Cheng to hesitate.

Besides, he hadn’t even been anywhere recently besides the villa with Yan Wushi and if that wasn’t the safest place in the world then Shen Qiao didn’t know what was—
And that’s when Shen Qiao had an uncomfortable thought.
Even though Yan Wushi wasn’t above teasing Shen Qiao with potions or certain creative techniques, Shen Qiao knew in his heart that was not the case (this time). But now that Yan Wushi had come to mind, Shen Qiao realized that this particular feeling wasn’t totally unfamiliar, wasn’t quite as foreign as he’d originally thought…
It was just that usually it stayed locked behind a warm haze of blurry memories and was relatively temporary, resolved (after being caused) by Yan Wushi—
Shen Qiao’s face burned with the realization:
He was horny?!
Much to his surprise, Shen Qiao is horny. Considering who he's with, that should be an easy enough fix, right?

That’s what the web description says. A comfort blanket can be many things, they say: an actual blanket, a stuffed animal, a movie, or really anything. It’s mostly metaphoric, and when Xie Lian reads the description, he immediately thinks of San Lang.
Can someone be someone else's comfort blanket? Because if so, then San Lang is his. There is no better place than San Lang’s arms, no other place where he can feel secure, where he can truly be himself. If he’s sick, tired, or angry, one little hug from San Lang, and all of it disappears.
OR: San Lang mentions that he has a comfort blanket, and Xie Lian can’t stop thinking about it (but he’s not jealous! Of course not).
