Summary
There’s a small half-moon of blood under the white of Tim’s nail where he bent it. He studies the red of it, feeling foggy and dreamlike. “Can I ask you a question?”
His brother’s eyes flick to him and away again, surprised and wary. “What?”
His nail doesn’t hurt much, just the dullest of aches when he presses down against it. “When you were homeless, you slept with people for money, didn’t you?”
Jason jerks like he’s been slapped. His knuckles are so pale where they grip the steering wheel they suddenly look more bone than flesh. “Did I -”
“Was it worth it?” Tim asks, drifting like a cloud over whatever furious reaction Jason was about to give him. “The money, I mean.”
His sternum slams into the seatbelt with bruising force. Unbraced for it, his head whips forward and back against his seat as they swerve off the road again and skid to a halt with a screech of rubber.

Sighing, Pony lifts his head just enough that Darry can see the unfocused look in his eyes. “My head hurts real bad, alright? Everything’s too loud and the lights keep doing weird stuff.”
Darry’s brow furrows. “What do you mean ‘weird stuff’?”
Pony gives another small shrug. “I dunno, like…going in and out or something.”
The pieces are starting to fall into place in Darry’s addled brain and the picture they’re revealing isn’t a very pretty one. Just like their mother, Darry’s been getting migraines on and off ever since he hit puberty, but so far both his brothers have been spared the family curse.
It looks like Ponyboy’s luck has finally run out.

Daniel always hated throwing up.
Hated the feeling of heat, the constricting of his throat, and the taste, all of which sort of be soothed away by his mothers fingers carding through his hair or a soothing hand rubbing his back.
But more than all that? He hated the feeling of almost throwing up. The tight throat, the taste of acid, the burning in his nose, all for nothing. He’d rather shove three fingers in this throat to finish the job than to leave himself with that feeling.
But he’s not at home sick, and there’s no one to soothe him through the feeling as watches Max’s car crash into the barriers on the screen.

He stepped out of the woods into the clearing with his arms held out, dropping his bag in favor of raising his hands as he registered three rifles pointed his way.
They didn't immediately open fire, which was nice. Jason had been prepared for that possibility, but getting shot was better than starving or freezing to death.
"State your name and business."
The pack alpha was even bigger up close, a wall of muscle silhouetted against the fire, and for a moment Jason cursed himself for spending so long fighting with himself. This would have been much easier in the daylight.
He let out a wheeze, trying to apologize, then tipped his chin up in a sign of submission. The atmosphere shifted, and he saw the dark-haired girl lower her rifle out of the corner of his eye.
"No way…"

Jason couldn’t tear his eyes away from the slumped figure shrouded in the dark.
He tensed, feeling his muscles coiling with the preparation to lunge as Dick stared up at him, his blue eyes hollow in the dim lighting.
But that wasn’t what caught Jason’s attention. It was the way Dick was half-hanging out of the bathtub like he’d attempted to crawl out but was caught mid failure. It was the dark liquid pooling on the floor, smelling too much like iron to be anything but blood.
It was the way that in the dark, Dick already looked dead.

Red Hood’s modulated voice is bone-chilling. Nearly every sleaze-bag in Crime Alley had become accustomed to the gravely robotic nature of it. The unnatural shifts in his words and the variations in pitch being just ever so slightly off putting. Borderline uncanny, yet everyone who’s heard it knows there’s a human behind that voice. A man who choses to blow a hole through someone’s skull without so much of an afterthought.
Though, no one had ever heard that voice scream.
Not until tonight.
Or, Red Hood is captured, Nightwing saves him and while helping him afterwards, puts the wrong puzzle pieces together and confronts him which does not go quite how he planned.

Summary
Graveyard mud, heavy and dark, clinging to a stained and torn suit. One shoe missing, a leg bent awkwardly and blood staining a bare foot.
Milk white skin beneath the mud, black hair hanging in muddy clumps around his ears. Blue eyes staring back at him, animal-bright and dilated in the brief moment before he flinches back from the light with a cry of pain that stabs through Jason to the soul.
His shaking hand closes around the flashlight before he can even think about it, cutting off the piercing beam and letting it spill out in shards between his fingers. For a petrifying moment as his eyes readjust, he’s sure that when he looks again, there will be nothing there.
“Tim?” he whispers.
The lean and ragged figure, tiny, god he’s so small, lowers his hands away from his face, away from his eyes wide and glittering almost silver in the moonlight.
Hands, mud-covered and torn. The red of his shredded fingernails is sickeningly dark in the broken light.
He’s vomiting before he even feels the bile making its way up his throat.

Summary
The Joker smiles down at him and Jason feels like he’s a kid again.
It's not in a good way. It's not in the way that he feels when it’s him and the Outlaws, racing through the rooftops of the city. Instead, he feels like he’s back in that warehouse in Ethiopia, screaming in time with the ticking of a bomb.
He forces the thought away and takes in his surroundings.
There’s another bomb wrapped around one of the pillars, countdown not yet triggered. In bright red numbers it reads 5:00. Instead of lying on the floor, Jason’s tied to a chair. There’s metal cuffs on his wrists pinning him down, thick ropes wrapped around his chest and legs.
When he turns his head, he notes that there’s a Robin here, too.
It's not Jason, this time around.

Summary
Rain was the exact opposite of relaxing to 12-year-old Jason. All it did was remind him of all those times he had to sleep in it, shivering and soaked, with no hopes of getting dry any time soon.
Even though he was living with Bruce Wayne now, and was fairly confident in his safety there, he couldn't help but jump every time the thunder cracked or the rain picked up. At least there's another kid in the house. And a dog. So he doesn't have to spend the stormy night alone.

“Todd,” Damian calls and when he gets no answer from Jason, he whimpers, “Drake.”
“I can't believe I'm saying this but he’s breaking my heart, dude."
“Shut up, don’t give in. It’s a trap.” Jason says. “It’s a trap —”
They lose both the battle and the war when Damian stops waiting for them and instead stumbles forward, almost drunkenly, and unceremoniously flops himself on Jason’s front, full-on crying against his chest.
“Jesus fuck, Baby-bat. Who do I have to kill?”
(Or the one where Jason and Tim come to the Manor on the early hours of the day after a long night of patrol and they find weird new kind of life form out of this world that cries with snot and all inside the Manor. It takes them some time, because they are both dumbasses, to convince themselves that's actually their little brother crying his eyes out.)
