He scoots closer, whistles as though impressed. “Wow! It really is you in there! Had to see it to believe it—hah, see, you get it? Cause you can actually see me—“
aka, instead of gaining Yellow, Arthur and the King in Yellow swap bodies. All alone and human in a cabin outside of Addison, the King must grapple with who he is without John. (Arthur, meanwhile, can barely tell up from down).

Stede Bonnet's method of captaining is, of course, rather peculiar. His notion of wages, and a 'people positive management style' are, of course, not strictly speaking what any pirate crew is used to. That being said, there is one aspect of how his ship is run that his crew find impossible to argue with- it's a unique and astounding thing, to have even a small dragon for a first mate.

Vox realizes at the most inopportune moment possible that he is still quite pathetically gone for Alastor, and thus saves his life—in exchange for a deal. Alastor, on the other hand, strives to be inopportune at all possible moments, and thus learns what he is willing to sell in exchange for his own life. After all, "love" can be interpreted in so many different ways.

Vox was pretty much going for a celebratory fuck with Val to top off what has so far been the best day of his un-life, right in front of Alastor’s proverbial salad, mostly to rub in his old friend’s helplessness and discomfort. Alastor’s always been lame and weird about sex—the guy has no interest in it, and not even in a fun, dramatic way! He just thinks it’s boring and pointless and, as he once actually said, uncomfortably damp. So Vox isn’t under the impression that he could get Alastor to actually participate—

Summary
Arthur only leaves because the bartop is uncomfortable to lay his head on.
Usually it’s John who pesters him into getting up and heading home before it gets too late, (Arthur, we’ll miss the train tomorrow; Arthur, the street cats will want to see us; Arthur, I want to go home) but tonight he is silent. Arthur stays longer.

John remembered too well what it meant to be inside Arthur’s skull. To be housed. Cradled, even, in the confines of it. And if it could no longer hold him—if Arthur was gone, or shattered, or unreachable—then this would have to do: a shape like a mind, a structure like a thought. Not quite a home, but something adjacent. Scaffolding to hold himself together, made of the only material he had left.
Or, what if John found something better to do with all those versions of Arthur he came across in the Dark World?

Summary
Lucifer is very aware that certain aspects of personal grooming tend to go out the window for him on bad days (or weeks—or months). He does his best to keep up with it—he really does! It's just that the more visible things like his hair and clothes get priority, and by the times he realizes what a disaster his living space has become, or even worse, his wings...
Things were easier when he was living alone and there was nobody else around to notice things like the powder down that he scatters all over the place when he hasn't preened himself properly in too long. At least, they were until someone reaches out a helping hand.

How else is a demon supposed to work out some post-battle tension after a nearly decade-long dry spell, huh?
Unfortunately for Lucifer, he forgot that his brain makes any form of intimacy a PVP activity with friendly fire permanently enabled.

With Arthur broken and bleeding out, John makes a deal with the King in Yellow to spare him. John rejoins the King in exchange for Arthur's safety. However, the King is treacherous, and John learns too late that the King had no intention of truly honoring their deal. When the King brings Arthur back to his city to force John's continued cooperation, Arthur is powerless to watch as his friend is slowly reabsorbed into the King in Yellow.

Summary
Arthur’s heart flutters unevenly, arrhythmic. Vague sparking signals cannot make it past the broken connection of his severed spine. There is warmth in his core, still, but it is fading rapidly in the frigid air. The Dark World compels him to live, yes—but it does nothing more.
And like that, enveloped wholly in his blood and sinew once again, it occurs to him:
Maybe he can do something about this.
If he wants his friend back, he needs to do something about this.
He stretches his awareness outward once again, and begins to knit.
After dying at Kayne's hands, John and Arthur find themselves in the Dark World. Possessed of two separate bodies, though... perhaps not quite as separate, or as whole, as they were hoping.
Nothing's ever easy, is it?
