'But they were not Emrys. His strength is beyond anything in living memory, and the heights he could reach are, as yet, unknown.' Aglain spread his hands, his shoulders rolling in a graceful shrug. 'I can only tell you that the Tir Na Lei means no harm. Three is the number: the ritual is set. The circle will not call on Emrys again.'

“I’m not standing here as a king, Merlin!” Arthur shouted, his voice breaking as he did so. “I’m standing here as a man, a man who believed he knew you completely, a man who thought you were the one constant in his life, a man who thought…who thought you were his,” he finished, horrified to feel tears pricking his eyes.

Merlin doesn’t want to think about his relationship with Arthur, because there is nothing to think about. His relationship with his friend/boss/blond jerk whose life he happened to save when they first met, is completely normal. The people in his life disagree.

The rivalry between the Ealdor Wizards and the Camelot Kings has always been a bit, well, heated. Especially for Arthur, Camelot’s golden poster boy, and Merlin, Ealdor’s homegrown hero.
