Everything is wrong with Lex. There is some strange, deep itch inside him that he cannot scratch or shake.
And it's bothering him on a daily basis. Every time he looks at Ultraman. Every time he thinks of him or Superman, it gets multiplied by a thousand. Lex tells himself it's disgust. That it’s the revulsion of staring too long into the face of everything he loathes.
He can feel it in the way his skin itches when he’s alone. In the way silence feels like screaming.
He wants it to stop! He wants it to stop eating him alive. He wants to kill Superman. Destroy him. To touch him. Wait- No! Not that!
No.
No. He won’t think that. Can’t.
But the thought is already there, blooming like rot beneath floorboards.
He clenches his fists, nails biting into his palms hard enough to break skin. Maybe he hopes pain will snap him out of it. Maybe he hopes that if he bleeds - if something real happens - it will prove he’s still in control.
But it doesn’t.

Revali sputtered into a stunned silence.
“Bullshit, that’s impossible!” His feathers rustled as he balked. “He was sent by the Demon King!”
“We know that, but— he has the mark of the goddess on his hand,” Urbosa snapped. “The rest of us saw it. If you don’t believe it, you can see for yourself.”
The Rito didn’t even deign to give the unconscious swordsman a glance.
“Hero or not, we’re not letting him off the hook just like that,” Revali’s voice climbed an octave. “He’s too dangerous— we saw what he’s capable of. We have to kill him while he’s still weakened!”
“We aren’t killing him,” Zelda asserted again. This time, she lifted her eyes. Her voice held a note of cautiousness, but it was still unshakeable.
“If we’re to even hope to defeat the Demon King, we need the hero on our side. We have to take him with us.”
[In which Link was raised as Ganon’s right hand man, but Zelda and the Champions snatch him away.]

Surely, with a bit of reconnaissance, nothing can go wrong with that.
… Right?Where a deal goes only a bit sideways but in the wake of it, Robotnik is reminded sharply that his partner is only human, and vulnerable. He sets out to drill the importance of that fact into Stone‘s brain with a bit of a hands-on approach

“Now, I know you’re likely worried we’re throwing you to the wolves again before you’re fully recovered from you last mission, but that’s not why you’re here," Walters said, smile tense at the edges. “Although we do need your skills.”
“I’m more than happy to go wherever I’m needed,” Stone said, tilting his lips up into a smile he had practiced for years. As usual, it was the perfect mix of submissive and understanding.
“Good to hear, Agent. Luckily, it’s nothing too strenuous. In fact, you’ll be staying on base for this one. You’ll be acting as an assistant to one of our scientists.” An assistant. To a scientist. Even if he was grounded from field work until he was healed, that was... odd.
“May I ask what scientist I’ll be working under?” Stone asked, unable to keep all of the caution from his voice. He felt justified when Walters visibly winced.
“Well, he’s one you might have heard of before, actually.” Walters hesitated, cleared his throat, and then spoke as if he hadn’t so clearly revealed his nervous demeanor. “You’ll be assigned to Dr. Ivo Robotnik.”

Leaving his bags where they are for now, Tails steps into the house proper, kicking off his shoes as he goes.
Rounding the corner into the kitchen, he stops when he spots a familiar figure.
"What are you doing here?"
Shadow the Hedgehog glances at him, before turning his attention back to the bubbling pot before him.
One hand on his hip, the other idly stirring whatever's in the pot, and afternoon sunlight bouncing off his black fur paints an odd picture of domestic serenity. One as unnervingly out of place as Cream on a battlefield.
"What does it look like? I'm making soup."Or: Sonic gets sick, and Shadow and Tails bond over the universalties of little sibling-hood.
