After an antagonistic introduction, Theo and Dev realize they may have more in common than they initially thought (and maybe they should kiss about it??), but they’ll have to engage in a “friends with benefits” agreement full of mutual pining for a good long while before admitting anything like feelings—all while dealing with hockey-related subterfuge, blackmail, and parents who probably shouldn’t be.

“I suppose we are…” Caitlyn tested the placement of her left hand to her abdomen again, feeling both mystified and a bit scared. “What do we do?” She asked suddenly.
Vi pursed her lips and exhaled with a shake of her head. “No idea.” Vi followed her gaze and smiled, those butterflies seeming to multiply as she asked such a simple question. “You still wanna do this?”
Smiling, Caitlyn nodded as she hummed. “Yep. And you?” She asked, her smile fading for only a moment.
Vi grinned widely as she gave a quick nod. This was all she ever wanted. “Already got the due date memorized, Cupcake.”

Ekko pushed off the pillar, staring between them like the world had just tilted sideways. “You’ve been working with us, running around Zaun, pregnant—for how long?”
“Five months,” Vi admitted, pride and protectiveness warring in her grin.

Her expression falls, and Caitlyn watches her as she emulsifies the shampoo in her palms. Vi starts with her ends, massaging the soap into Caitlyn’s hair.
“I never thought that I would want to. And, if I did, I never thought my dad and my brothers wouldn’t be there to see it.”

“I don’t know why I’m so unprepared.” Caitlyn said. She really didn’t know why—she usually had a back-up plan, and a back-up plan to that back-up plan, and many others to follow in a scenario like this— so this happening was completely unheard of; something she imagines being chastised for back at home. “I’m sorry.”
She expects something; a snort, a tease, something to indicate that Vi found this a little too funny for comfort.
Instead, none of that happens—just something completely outlandish, and unheard of.
“Don’t apologize for shit. Wanna switch?”
A beat of silence passes, nearly as if the question had never been proposed. “What?”
“You heard me.” Caitlyn’s ears caught it, and she still couldn’t believe it herself. “We could switch. Skirt to pants, pants to skirt.”

Joel freezes.
In that moment, he feels everything and nothing simultaneously. Looking up at this girl, just 20 years old, wide-eyed and freckled, clearly terrified of what he’s going to say, he feels utterly unraveled.
And suddenly he’s in the Boston QZ, with this little pony-tailed brat nagging him about Before, asking too many questions, clinging to Tess like she’s never had an adult be nice to her in her life. He’s walking along cracked pavement, listening to shitty puns and trying to suppress his laughter. He’s looking up at a petrified little face through blurry vision, listening to her tell him it’s all gonna be okay, feeling the stab of a needle through his wounded stomach. He’s holding her bloody cheeks in his palms, cradling her face like she’ll disintegrate at the slightest touch. He’s carrying her limp body from a hospital hallway with lights blaring and gunshots echoing.
