Promises held no impetus in this world, where nothing happened, nothing changed.
The Machine reset its position on its knees and replaced its hands on the weapon of a fallen era. I can’t stop you from making useless promises, can I?
Somehow, without doing anything, the Machine had gained a visitor and protector.

It's seven months after the battle of Exegol ended the war between the Resistance and the First Order. Rey is studying the Jedi texts, and is about to take Finn to Ahch-To to help her study and begin to explore his own Force sensitivity. Poe is still leading the Resistance as they set up a new, more permanent base on the planet Ryloth and begin the hard work of turning their movement into a legitimate government. The trouble is, Poe has never been good at delegating responsibility, and his friends are fearing he's taking on too much. What he really needs is a break.
This is going to be a long one, but the events will eventually cover our trio going to Ahch-To, BB-8 getting to know some porgs, and our favorite pilot and ex-stormtrooper finding love (and eventually...some smut). Settle in.

David tossed his phone into his lap, throwing up a hand. “Unbelievable.”
On the other side of the power outlet, the guy was making a heartfelt attempt at giving David some privacy, pointedly ignoring his theatrics. Only now, David was almost desperate for some pithy small talk, or a chance to commiserate about this miserable fucking situation they found themselves in. Perhaps even a drop of sympathy, which he clearly wasn’t going to receive from any of the contacts in his phone.
David cleared his throat and shifted toward the man. “So,” he began. “What brings you to Toronto Pearson International Airport this fine evening?”
The guy looked up at David like he couldn’t believe he had actually deigned to speak to him. He stared at David for a beat longer before glancing over his shoulder, looking out the window he was leaning against.
He turned back to David. “Someone told me the weather was great this time of year.”
AU. David and Patrick get snowed in at the airport. Sometimes, it only takes three days to fall in love.
