It’s not that Jon doesn’t like sitting in chairs. Really, it’s not. It’s just that there’s so much to do in so many different locations in the archives, and most of those locations don’t happen to have chairs anywhere near them. What’s Jon going to do, carry a chair around with him wherever he goes? Ridiculous.

After many failures that made his curse worse, he was sure no one could help him. But he still had to try. He found his way to a small little shop. Entering a transaction with a witch with a sharp tongue and a haunting stare. Finding support he never had growing up in an unlikely place. But would it only be until his debt is paid or could he make a friend in all this mess.

Warm milk is all he gets.
After that door closes and the world is eerily slammed back to normal, Jon’s legs unfreeze and he stumbles back off the step. Makes the journey home alone and wobbly, no desire left for exploring (it won’t return for a long time).

Summary
Martin learnt a lot about Jon that night. One, that he was incredibly knowledgeable on seemingly any subject Martin could think to ask about. Two, that he was actually more than happy to ramble on about one thing or another and forget about his work entirely if he felt like he was being listened to. And three, that he had quite an endearing habit of reacting to Martin’s every move. The blond would reach out and brush Jon’s hand to point to a certain word and Jon would stiffen, his cheeks colouring before he answered. He would absentmindedly wet his bottom lip and Jon would seem drawn to the movement, however much he tried to concentrate on the battered old book in front of him. Huh. This was new, but not unwelcome, Martin quickly decided.

Or, Jon and Martin become progressively more reliant on each other during Martin’s stay in the institute, and Jon has to deal with some very annoying emotions.

Tim feels a bit of schadenfreude at the whole thing. He’d feel a lot more schadenfreude if he wasn’t the unlucky bastard on the other end of the chain. Why hadn’t he just gone home? Then the cuffs could’ve snapped shut on both of Jon’s wrists, and Tim would have returned to find him tied up and penitent and thoroughly incapable of skulking around like a creep until Tim damn well felt like letting him out.
After a scuffle over a mysterious package in the Archives, Jon and Tim end up locked together in a pair of handcuffs that don’t seem interested in letting them out. Surely this will end well.
