Huh. Okay, yeah: now that she’s looking properly, it’s obvious they’re different people. Still! She’d have guessed, like, fraternal twin or something. He doesn’t know Ryuzaki at all? They’re wearing the same outfit! They even slouch the same!
“Should I be offended that I’ve been mistaken for him?” asks not-Ryuzaki, pushing a thumb into his lower lip, eyes suddenly aglow with mirth.
“You’re not a weird depressed detective freak,” Misa dismisses. He does seem close — just missing the second and third words in that phrase — but he’s so much more tolerable than the real Ryuzaki that she is willing to overlook this. “You actually go outside, for one thing.”
Or: the one where Misa runs into a stranger at the shopping mall who, weirdly enough, looks just like L. Which means she has to introduce them!

The pen is titanium. L wishes desperately he could break it. Light’s hand closes in on his own.

Light was not forced to run after L. And the chase could have been fun.
All that travel. All the places he had never seen, all the old grandeur of cities and mesmerising nature, colourful, unusual to him, wild; the air had a taste of a new variety of spring water every time.
Light picks up the keycard, puts on his jacket and shoes, and unlocks the door.
“Is that all?” L asks evenly, typing in staccato.
And, some other time, it probably wouldn’t be.
