Summary
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
Sitting on the damp, muddy ground, hugging his knees to his chest, not caring about the dirt most definitely getting on his khaki pants and tan coat. When he first got the outfit, it felt like it swallowed him whole. Now, he has grown into it. It is still a bit large on him, his body gangly with the clothes a little loose, but not nearly as oversized as before. More evidence that his body is changing, that he is changing. The more he thinks about it, the worse he feels.
“I’m sorry.”
He rarely apologizes like this, genuine. Maybe it is only something he can only say to a tombstone.
No one ever told him the light would be this lonely.

Summary
Fukuzawa's voice, when it comes, is quiet enough that Dazai has to strain to hear it over the ringing in his own ears. "The Armed Detective Agency acknowledges the debt incurred to the Port Mafia during the incident eleven months prior, and agrees to its resolution as specified: the permanent transfer of one member's service and loyalty, at the receiving party's discretion." A pause, long enough that Dazai can hear exactly how much it costs him to keep going. "The receiving party has named Dazai Osamu."

Summary
“Chuuya.” Dazai says, in a way that makes Chuuya think Dazai has said his name once already.
“Dazai.” He responds. When he looks up, he accidentally focuses on Dazai’s mouth, the deep raw color of the bruise growing on his cheek. Chuuya blinks, rocks on his feet, looks away.
“I said did you kill them?” Dazai asks after a long pause. His voice is uncomfortably even.
Chuuya looks at Dazai and the violence in his eyes shakes him to his core. His stomach floods with want. His toes curl in his shoes.
Chuuya nods, a jerk of his head. His ribs ache. Dazai evaluates him.
“We need to go.” Dazai says.
I am afraid of the power you hold over me, Chuuya thinks and says—
“Yeah.”
Dazai steps on a body when they leave, eyes trained elsewhere. It makes a sound like ice cracking.
Dazai doesn’t look down.
The palms of Chuuya’s hands itch.

Summary
No one ever truly knew anything complete about Dazai.
Everyone picked up fragments here and there—small pieces of information, scattered hints—but even when those fragments were put together, they barely formed a quarter of the full picture.
And when an ability began showing Dazai’s memories to both the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia, things quickly spiraled out of control.

“Do you think he likes me back?” Dazai asked in a small voice suddenly. He looked like a kid instead of a cold-blooded mafia executive for the second time in the same night. Oda felt something growing in his chest. He didn’t need clarification to understand whom he was talking about.
Dazai is an idiot and catches a cold. The Lupin Trio talks about Dazai and Chuuya's 'relationship' briefly.

Osamu Dazai was, to put it lightly, a really weird kid. He could be childish and bubbly one moment, and then he would turn into a battle-hardened veteran the next. He was an executive, yet he was a child. The boy was a genius, yet couldn’t process his own emotions. He reminds Oda of a fox, or maybe a cat. Sly and cunning, smart and inquisitive, fearful and scared.

This time, Dazai didn’t answer, just pressed his face further into Chuuya, nose digging into his shoulder. His breathing stuttered a little as a shudder ran through him, and his arms were tense around Chuuya’s middle as he sat on the motorcycle behind him.

For a moment, a foolish split-second, Dazai almost wants to kiss him. Almost does. He comes so close, in fact, that in leaning forward he puts Chuuya under the impression he's about to pass out.
"Chuuya . . ." Dazai mumbles, his voice trailing off as the distance closes.
He slumps into Chuuya's chest, all energy he mistakenly thought he had absolutely gone in the moment.
