Summary
The faint flicker of the lantern’s flame cast strange shadows on the walls. Twisted shapes danced back and forth, a calming show that used to put Dipper to sleep.
During the summers it had often been the only way he could sleep after the excitement and confusion most of the days held, back before what happened before they left. His mind would be racing despite aching muscles and pounding head, worsening the insomnia that he already struggled with enough at home.
Dipper always dealt with hallucinations and nightmares, doubly so after his first summer at gravity falls and his parents' divorce. Recently, however, they've gotten worse. Way worse. And with an annoying voice in his head that sometimes doesn't sound like it comes from his own brain.

A small engineer had wedged themself half under the remains of a destroyed crate, one arm mangled beyond repair and dragging behind them as they tried to shove their body further underneath.

Out in space it was just him and the quiet tranquility that followed the darkness and the coolness which eased his thoughts. Until one day he meets a bright, warm, eccentric asshole who forces him to face the root of his reservations of the light and bright.
