He didn’t expect to be given a Pokémon, he definitely didn’t expect to be caught up in something that he was fairly certain was supposed to be a secret for regional security purposes, and he certainly didn’t expect to fall in love. Though maybe he should’ve; Lumiose may be known interregionally as the City of Light, but another common name for it was the City of Love.
Granted, it taking one of his friends getting in debt to the mob for him to figure out that he was in love was a bit strange.
