Outside in the heated night air, Cloud downed the dregs of his drink and set the cup on the top stair. Sighing unto the stars he looked up into the abyss, perhaps contemplating what lay out there. Much had been brought from the stars down upon them; enough to change all their lives, their world, forever.
As he turned to mount Fenrir, something caught his eye. Just two miles distant, deep within the forgotten neighboring city, the fossil remains of ShinRa Power and Electric Company still loomed. Its broken carapace hardly hung together. But there, at the heart of the abandoned shell, a single window flowed with yellow light.

He took the buster sword from its place on his back and held it in front of him, reinforcing his stance. He was ready to swing the blade down onto the next machine, the next soldier or the next lost monster.
What Cloud saw instead made him almost falter, his grip slipping for a split-second.
The boy in front of him looked to be around 17, maybe 18. His black hair stood out in wild spikes, a little matted from his slumber on the cot. There was a plaster on his left cheek.
Blue eyes darted around in confusion, mako shining brightly in them and making Cloud bristle.
A SOLDIER, then. His uniform gave his rank away, too.
First Class.
Cloud blinked.
How did he not know him if they had been the same rank?
OrZack Fair gets a second chance at life, without any memory of what happened after Angeal's death.

Between calls, they were tuned into the military line. The updates came in less and less. Distressed troopers calling in for backup that wouldn't come. On one hand, there was hope with the target still fighting back. On the other, it was horrifying getting update after update of the hits he was taking.
As the rain picked up, they thought of calling the whole things off. It was dangerous, and visibility was shit.
