Silently, he reached out and removed the cuff holding it together, weaved it back into a braid and slipped the cuff on before leaving the courtyard. As soon as he was out of sight, he braced himself against the wall and let the sobs shake his body.
Even in death, he cannot let Mydei see him be weak.

He is hugging his sword to his chest, his self-soothing habit, and a familiar black coat is draped over his shoulders, red ribbons trailing out onto the cushions—Yingxing’s coat.
His heart seizes a little at the sight, because it’s as if Ren has wrapped himself in Yingxing for comfort.
But the air of melancholy about Ren, mind seeming a million miles away as he looks out into the rain, quickly sobers Yingxing’s thoughts.

“Don’t move,” a voice says to his left, soft and smooth in his ears like water flowing in a river. It’s unique and familiar, it’s the first thing Blade hears. “The injuries you’ve sustained are great, moving might bring forth more pain.”
Blade cracks open his eyes and sees a wooden roof above him. He’s about to move his head to see who had spoken to him before a hand presses softly on his forehead, brushing back some hair that shifted and covered his eye.
“There are no wounds on your face,” the voice mutters, “but multiple shallow ones along the right arm, a broken leg, and a stab right below the ribs.”
There’s a pause and Blade can’t do anything but wait.
There’s a huff. “You’re lucky to have survived long enough for me to find you.”
(Or: A fantasy au where Blade wakes up injured in a cabin with no memories, and Dan Heng was the one to find him. A journey of healing, hoping, and loving.)
