Summary
Yuna might be a bit vindictive. But Rozanov is an asshole — even Shane admits it. He insults everyone all the time. Right now, it’s Yuna’s turn.
“Licking your wounds, Rozanov?” He turns slightly.
“Licking — what?” His accent is stronger than she thought it would be. Yuna realizes they’ve never really had a conversation. Maybe an idiom wasn’t the right choice for a chirp.
“Thinking about your losses,” Yuna clarifies. Does an insult lose power if you have to explain it? Probably. Damn.
“Ah.” Rozanov turns his head back to look out at the city. He sounds bored. It pisses Yuna off more than it probably should. Which is dumb, since she’s the one who came all the way out here just to start something because she hates this boy, this brash, cocky asshole who everyone uses as a measuring stick for her son.
or, Yuna decides to chirp her son's rival after the NHL awards. It goes really, really well. Definitely no one cries. (Be warned, this one is sad, y'all.)

Rozanov’s brow furrows. “Why would I be in Boston?”

The room is silent except for the beeping of monitors.
In 2023, Shane takes a bad hit on the ice. When he wakes up, the last thing he remembers is a tuna melt.

Ilya almost dropped his cigarette. His English was shitty, but he had studied that sentence enough times over the years to understand it immediately. He didn't even think about his words much anymore, but it was impossible to avoid them.
He turned instinctively, and was face to face with Shane fucking Hollander.
Out of almost seven billion people, of course Ilya's soulmate had to be his fated rival. It was almost poetic. Still, Ilya had enough sense to realize just how bad this was.
or, Shane says Ilya's soulmate words. Ilya vows to never speak a word to him to keep him from finding out. They fall in love anyway.

Every feeling that Ilya remembered having about Shane from the moment they’d set eyes on each other that first time came rushing back with such force that it nearly knocked Ilya on his feet.
Shane looked exactly as he had the last time Ilya had laid eyes on him. Shorter than him by a solid three inches. Deceptively lean. A splash of freckles across his nose. Jaw sharp and clearly tight with what was probably a mixture of nerves and determination. He was, by all means, a very attractive person, something that Ilya had tried very hard to forget.
Ilya clenched his jaw against that heady desire to protect and stuck out his hand. “Welcome to Centaurs, Hollander.”

All Ilya Rozanov wants is to lead the Ottawa Centaurs to the coveted Stanley Cup and be the kind, respectful alpha he was never taught to be.
Enter Shane Hollander.
Ilya refuses to let his curiosity towards Shane get in the way, which is hard to do when he’s staying in Ilya’s house. There’s also that strangely enticing scent that starts to follow him everywhere.

“How do you know my passcode?” Shane asks again.
“That’s what you’re focusing on?” Hayden is basically yelling at this point. “Rozanov is screwing your girlfriend, and you’re worried about how I know your fucking passcode?”
Shane’s brain fully short-circuits.
“Rozanov is what?”

Shane felt it wasn’t jealousy, or not in some killing way, at least. By now he knew he had Ilya by the soul. It was just annoying that Troy may have had some context surrounding Ilya that Shane didn’t, as if some crack in his knowledge could amount to a gulf he hadn’t crossed yet.
Or, there are things Troy knows about Ilya that Shane doesn’t. Shane navigates this territory with some trepidation.
