This is a canon-divergent AU where Boiling Rock is worse. I took the Warden's "special prisoner" line and ran with it. I also wanted to explore what would have happened if Hakoda had been the one who'd been in Boiling Rock for a while rather than Suki, and what that might have changed.
Zuko is the type of person to go all-in when he commits to a goal, and that does not always go in his favor! Here we follow him, Sokka, and Hakoda through Boiling Rock and the aftermath.

Sokka shuffles in place nervously and looks around. There’s nothing remotely useful nearby. “We need to pull you to shore without putting too much weight on one spot. It needs to stay spread out.”
He realizes abruptly that this girl does not have gloves on, and one of her hands is swollen. If he doesn’t figure this out fast, fingers will be lost.
He starts stripping. He has enough heat in his body right now to last him a little while without his clothes. He ignores the “what the fuck…” he hears from the injured girl and starts knotting them together.
