And he thought about it. He really did. He thought about the quiet that he’d experienced, the silence in his brain as he stepped off that roof in contrast to the small buzzing of their coffee machine or the birds on the balcony. He thought about the absence of fear and the blatant emotionlessness of it all, the disregard for life in its entirety as he let himself be taken by gravity and he pondered the absence of fear in this very moment, staring into Sam and Bucky’s fond eyes. He searched the depths of himself, the peace that he’d felt in those few seconds of lifeless falling, and then he compared it to the peace he was finding bit by bit in the slowly rising sun he could see from Sam and Bucky’s couch.
Falling, shockingly, came up short.

After Tony hears Peter’s recording admitting his anger at himself and at Tony, he decides he needs to fix it. To do that he needs to confront Peter and admit he heard his whole suicidal ramble. Except, Tony doesn’t know how to help as well as he thought he did.

“FRIDAY?” he asks hesitantly, but he doesn’t get a verbal response.
Instead, a video starts playing. Peter sees Tony, and the sight cracks him wide open.
“Please stop.” His voice cracks on the request, but FRIDAY ignores him. The audio starts filtering in, and Peter can’t help but listen.
The first clip is Tony talking to Pepper.
“No, I don’t care what SHIELD says, I’m not telling them who Spider-Man is. Let the kid deal with that when he’s older. God,” he says irritably, and then it flashes to another clip.
