Jyn began to tremble, her breath ragged as she clenched her teeth against a sob. Cassian’s grip tightened around her, responding to her fear. “I’ve got you,” he whispered into her ear over and over. He just kept repeating it, he didn’t know why. He knew he couldn’t save her, that holding her tightly wouldn’t stop what was coming. Jyn leaned her head against him, one last breath freezing in her chest. Cassian felt it; the roaring energy cloud was upon them and his eyes opened wide in fear right at the last moment.

Obi-Wan lay in the grass for a long time, drifting in and out of consciousness, when a powerful presence suddenly appeared in the Force, rousing him from his restlessness. He held his breath, alert and fearful. The scent of his blood had undoubtedly attracted this creature’s attention. Whether predator or no, whatever approached was stealthy, large, and had a strong Force signature. As it came closer, he finally made out the sound of its paws in the grass, moving slowly, methodically, taking one careful step at a time.

“Calm yourself, young one.” Qui-Gon’s large hands stroked her cheekbones. “Where is Obi-Wan?”
She stared at him with wild eyes, tears still running down her face. “They took him.”
Qui-Gon’s look changed instantly, his features fell as fear gripped his heart. “Where?”
“Down the mountain, by the river.”
“Who was it?”
“Five bounty hunters. Obi-Wan could sense them coming. He told me to run.” Her chin began to tremble. “But I heard him scream so I went back.”
