“It’s kind of weird,” Dream blurts out, watching the back of George’s head while he messes around with settings on his old PC. “It’s like—it feels like there was a whole other version of George who existed in this room, that I never really got to see. Not from this perspective, anyway.”
“Well,” George laughs fondly, his hand squeezing Dream’s knee as he sits back down on the bed beside him. “The George who existed in this bedroom loved you, so. At least one thing hasn’t changed.”
Dream almost laughs, certain for a moment that George has to be making a joke. “You—no you didn’t.”

“I love you,” Dream whispers. “You know that?”
George nods. His throat feels constricted. Dream’s arms are warm around him, keeping him steady; not letting him fall.
He thinks of the hard kitchen tile, and sharp edges out of the counters around them. He thinks of going crashing into them, concussing himself or blacking out against the cold floor. But Dream said he won’t let that happen, and George thinks that he doesn’t know how not to trust him anymore.
Or, Dream and George dance in the kitchen and talk about love.

George always used to insist that if it came down to this, they would both eat the poisoned berry, let its fatal chemicals circulate their bloodstreams and slowly kill them, so that they may die hand in hand.
Except here, there were no berries. Only a pellet of metal inside an otherwise empty chamber. A lone bullet that begged for bloodshed, and Dream insisted he would let it rip into his cortex. There wasn’t even an accompanying bullet so George could shoot himself afterwards and free himself from the shackled misery of the capitalistic games.
He was destined to die alone, survivor’s guilt weighing him down like the world on Atlas’ shoulders.
Or, Dnf are faced with a game in squid craft where one must kill the other, no way out.

“Tu es tout pour moi,” George spoke suddenly and Dream’s hand stilled as he processed those words. It took so long for them to click that he almost missed George whispering, “Tu es la lumière de ma vie.”
His little phrases, those were his little phrases. Dream felt like his heart could stop. His little phrases were terms of adoration.
‘Tu es tout pour moi’ he’d said. 'You are everything to me,' he’d meant.
‘Tu es la lumière de ma vie’ he’d said. 'You are the light of my life, he’d meant.
--- OR: George's first language is French and for his entire friendship with Dream, he's been telling him things in French. One day, Dream decides to learn French to understand what George has been telling him.

Summary
“Do you think we’ll see the stars tomorrow night?” he asks. He doesn’t care much about seeing the real stars tonight when Dream shines brighter in front of him.
“I hope so,” Dream tells him, voice barely above a whisper. “I love seeing the stars. It makes me feel like I’m part of something bigger.”
“I don’t want to be part of something bigger,” George admits, meeting Dream’s eyes again. He’s been watching him with a curious expression as if he’s been transfixed by watching him think but hesitant to interrupt it. “I just want to be here.”
Through corn fields, deserts, and mountains, Dream and George take a train from Chicago to San Francisco as one last adventure before George graduates from university. It's meant to just be fun, but things get a bit more complicated when there are feelings hanging in the air.

“It was fine, Dream,” George replied. His voice sounded strange to Dream’s ears. “I’m just- I’m not used to it, I guess…”
He paused, gaze focused on the countertop as he picked up a rag to wipe off all the excess frosting.
“I’ve just never really liked physical contact, y’know, like people touching me and stuff-“
“Say no more,” Dream said, feeling the weight dip lower on his chest. “I won’t do that anymore, I promise.”
“But it’s different with you.”

Ever since their Christmas gift opening stream, George hadn't been able to get those words out of his head. Scribbled, albeit in sightly messy (but entirely Dream) handwriting, onto the bottom of that stupid "For my wife" Christmas card Dream had given him were the words that held the key to George's heart.
