“Look,” Max starts, heading over to the spinning chair and sitting so that her chest is against the back, and her legs dangle down. “I can’t help you unless you tell me what happened, okay?”
She starts with this, because Mike Wheeler is not known for being one to talk about his personal flaws. If she knows anything about Vecna, it’s that everything he says to you is dredged up from the deepest, most private part of your soul. There is no way, she thinks, that Mike will ever tell her what really happened unless he truly believes it’s the only way he can survive.
Maybe not even then, she thinks. Didn’t El tell her that he jumped off of a cliff once?
“I don’t have to tell you shit,” he mutters, turning his head away from her.
OR
Max wakes up, Mike gets Vecna’d, they both have to do a lot of getting along with each other. (Basically just my love letter to a Mike & Max friendship because I always thought they’d probably be best friends if they didn’t hate each other’s guts)

“Any of it.” Will shrugs, embarrassed. “I don’t know how to ask someone out, or how to act on a date, or how to- kiss, or anything like that.”
“Oh.” Mike’s expression clears, and he grins. “Well, like I said, you’re a catch, so I don’t think you’d need to worry about putting people off or something. And all of that stuff is way easier than it sounds, seriously.”
Will makes a face. “That can’t be true.”
“I’m serious!” Mike says, laughing a little. “Here, we can practice.” He shifts on the bed, arranging his legs beneath him and sitting up a little straighter, running a casual hand through his hair. “Pretend I’m a guy you like.”
Practice makes perfect, especially when the person you're practicing with is your best friend.

He hadn't asked for a picture. That felt weird, for some reason, but now it was clearly a mistake. He should have asked, so he could have a heads up. That way he could have readjusted the image of Will in his head so he didn't feel like passing out at the sight of him.
Will had gotten hot.
Like, objectively speaking. Not in a romantic way. Mike wasn't gay. Not that there was anything wrong with that. Will was gay, he had told everyone about a year ago, but Mike wasn't. Still, he could recognize a person's general attractiveness level. He could still recognize that El was pretty even though they were no longer dating and he didn't have any feelings for her.
But Will was off the charts. And Mike was having a hard time processing this. Like what do you even say to your now hot best friend you haven't seen in 638 agonizing days, without sounding gay, but his newfound level of attraction is the only thing currently in your head?
...
The Hopper-Byers visit for Christmas, and the Party is determined to give El all the fun snowy winter experiences she never had. But Mike is having a *slight* crisis when he realizes how much his best friend has changed, and how much he can't stop thinking about it.

Will blinks again. Their noses bump. Mike is so close. “I, um. What?” he hisses out, voice hoarse. It can’t be- there’s no way Mike means-
Mike looks mortified, but he’s also not moving away. “Do you think there's a universe,” he repeats, slow and shaky, “where you and I are- you know.”
“Mike,” Will says, verging on exasperated, but too shaky to fully accomplish the tone he’s going for. He can feel Mike’s heart racing where it’s pressed against his own. “Use your words.”
“I want to kiss you,” Mike blurts, dazed and harried. A strand of hair falls into his eyes, and it tickles Will’s cheek with their proximity.

“Shut up,” Eddie hisses, but keeps trying to see how deep she can shove her tongue into Richie’s mouth. The groan deep in Richie’s throat makes the sloppiness worth it; Eddie knows she doesn’t know what she’s doing, but that’s sort of the thrill of it. She gets to do these things for the first time with Richie. She shifts against Richie’s thighs, whose stupidly clad in her usual baggier-than-they-should-be denim jeans, and ghosts a soft hand over Richie’s jaw, down from her earlobe with a squeeze.

“You look happy.” Mike teases back at him, setting down his comic on the bed.
“I am.” Will echoes, eyes glinting quietly. He really is.
They fall back into quiet again, as the birds outside whistle softly in the spring, and then “Do you remember your old house?” It’s a bit of a random question, but it’s Mike so Will isn’t all that surprised when he speaks into the silence.
He laughs, “It’s only been a few years, I’d be a bit concerned if I didn’t remember.”
“That’s a yes then.” Mike grins and Will rolls his eyes, setting down his sketchbook.
Or, Mike and Will are seventeen now and one spring day they have a moment that finally leads to something.

Will slams the door shut and pulls himself up on the hood of the car, knees raised. For a second, Mike almost doesn’t recognise him. He’s sitting on top of his dad’s car with a beer bottle in hand—older, with his features more defined, and he no longer has that bowl cut he had throughout his childhood and teenage years. There’s a sparkle in those hazel eyes of his that hadn’t been there since he was twelve, and Mike, despite his better judgement, finds himself captivated by it.
Will opens the bottle and takes a drink, looking so at ease that Mike is stunned.
