The last of the summer’s whining cicadas are clicking in the darkness around them, and Chloe finds herself stuck in this thick, sticky October headspace, like Max still lives two houses down and they just got back from one of their middle-of-the-night drugstore raids. It’s the most simple, sweet thing that she’s felt in a long while.

It isn’t The Wizard of Oz that pierces through whatever walls Kara has placed around her heart, nor is it Singing In The Rain, or even West Side Story. No, it’s Oklahoma! that blindsides her, leaves her sobbing into her throw pillow until her voice disappears and she’s too exhausted to move to her bed.
She can’t figure out why a story set in the time of farmhands and cowboys could make her think of Lena in any way until she rewatches it.
And oh. Oh, she finally gets it now.
Kara hears the words being sung and is reminded of the fact that after everything, Lena still doesn’t have the full story.
Lena had accused her of having ulterior motives, of wanting to be close to her out of selfishness, of being too cowardly to ever take a real leap of faith. She isn’t all that wrong. Kara’s alter ego may be out in the open now for Lena to see, but that doesn’t mean Kara isn’t still hiding behind some lies.
The fact that she’s fallen in love with Lena Luthor accidentally along the way is the only secret she’s got left.
AKA, Kara watches an old movie, realizes what's been in front of her this whole time, and somehow, finds her way back to where her heart has made its home.

Emma stares at Ruby standing behind her through the propped mirror on the dining table as her friend quirks a brow. Valid enough question, she thinks. This is, indeed, a big change for her. But it’s one that’s been itching in the back of her mind for months. Every time she puts her hair up in a ponytail. Every time she puts a beanie on to keep it out of her face. Every time she washes her hair and the weight of it seems heavier on her shoulders. It’s the longest time she’s sat on a decision for someone whose impulse control leaves a lot to be desired. That must mean something.
“Yeah, Rubes. I’m sure sure.”
Ruby throws a half hearted salute back at her along with a reassuring grin before taking a pair of scissors to the bundle of her ponytail. Emma closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She clutches at the towel around her neck and tries to focus her attention on the sounds filtering through the open window of Ruby’s apartment. She hopes the sound of people coming and going through Granny’s just beneath them will drown out the snipping sound of the scissors cutting through her golden curls.

I... I'm not sure I'm okay. I'm very autistic and the very most I'm used to reading about (or watching, I guess, in visual media) is just one person in a relationship being either overtly or covertly autism-coded. I'm not sure I'm quite used to both Lena and Kara both being written this way and I keep crying because it's like someone figured out how to write something just for me, in the hidden language of my own heart.

Copying my review because I really was in raptures:
Okay, I finished and I'm about to reread this from the beginning because I love it. The worldbuilding, the dialogue, the intimacy — this text is so rich in detail that it feels like a much, much longer piece than it is. I'm not really exaggerating all that much when I say that some people need 100k words to weave a story as rich as yours and you did it with an extremely solid 14k. I'm really impressed and I'm really looking forward to reading more of your fic!
Something you've portrayed really well here is the way two people can be doing the best they can in a relationship and still need to apologize, still need to reconnect, still need to course-correct, and you do it without undue blame on either Vi or Caitlyn. It's really true to life in that way.
Also: You really captured so well what it's like to be an adult kid to homophobic parents. I know fandom tends to be very warm towards Cassandra and Tobias, but in my experience that level of wealth IRL breeds a certain kind of political and moral position; in more realistic settings like this one, when Caitlyn's parents are too accepting (without some explanation at least) of the queer and class dimensions of the Caitvi relationship, it blisteringly grates against my own experiences and often breaks my ability to suspend disbelief. You captured so many nuances here, including the way Vi's family genuinely worries that Caitlyn is not worthy of Vi's love. That was a really good detail.
All in all, thank you so much for writing this. It's so good.
