Suddenly, a beeping sound cut through Dick’s anecdote.
“Master Richard,” he said. “You’ve been with us for twenty years. Certainly you know the rules about phones at the table.”
“Sorry, Alfred,” Dick gave the man a boyish, sheepish grin. “In my defense, that particular rule was only implemented in my last year living here. And, really, we’re already—”
Dick stopped as his gaze fell on his phone’s screen. His eyes widened, the smile falling from his face.
“What?” It took all of Bruce’s will power not to take the phone from Dick’s hand and get the answer himself.
“Oswald Loomis was discovered missing from his cell in Cook County Jail about two hours ago,” Dick said.
OR
When a villain from Dick's past escapes prison to come after him, bonds of trust within the Bat Family are tested.
For the prompt: I want to see Bruce come to Dick's emotional defense.[...] It's Bruce, so I expect him to be honest and straightforward to the point of being an asshole about it. I don't mind a nuance approach to the situation overall, but I don't want Bruce to be nuanced about it. He's super biased - Team Dick all the way.

Still, it was a beautiful spring day. Too beautiful to be spent indoors. Ordinarily, Dick would have liked nothing more than to have gone out for some tea or a lemonade, and then sat down in a bench somewhere to enjoy a few hours of people watching as he thought over the details of his latest case.
Unfortunately, his biology had other plans for him.

“Dick,” he tried to keep his voice steady. He brought all of the darkness and steel of Batman into his tone, yet Dick could still see he was choking. “There are thing that must go unspoken.”
“And it will,” Dick said. “After today, we won’t ever talk about it again, Bruce. Nothing between us has to change.”
“Speaking what must not be said already changes everything. Go down this path, and we can’t turn back. No matter what we do, it will already be too late.”
“No, it won’t!”
“It will!” Bruce ran a frustrated hand through his hair. “Don’t you see? It’s already changing things now!”
Silence. Dick didn’t deny it. For a moment, Bruce thought maybe he would back down.
He should have known better.

The first time he laid eyes upon Wayne Manor, Dick Grayson gasped.
The year was 1885, and though the bright, vivid greens still maintained their dominance over the trees, autumn’s brushwork could already be observed in the first leaves adorned with the warm and inviting colors of nostalgic decay.
The two-day journey had been long, though not incredibly difficult. Dick departed from London early in the morning, saying his farewells to Donna and Lady Diana, who both saw him to his train and ensured, the previous week, that all of the belongings he would need would already be at the Manor by the time of his arrival.

When painter Dick Grayson is commissioned by Duke Gotham to create three portraits, he must come stay at the Wayne Manor. Mysterious and evasive, Duke Gotham soon proves himself to be a challenging subject to paint.

Dick doesn’t remember much of his life before.
His first real memories, stable memories, begin only at age fourteen. They only begin the first day he ever stepped foot into the manor, as if Dick had been remade that very day. As if he knew, at that moment, that this was where his new life began.
OR
The year is 1931. The Flying Graysons have just fallen to their death. Their only surviving son, Dick, is taken in by Bruce Wayne, the heir to the Wayne Railway Fortune, to live with him in his manor. Whether or not this was for the best remains—unclear.

“You’ll give me magical training?” Merlin asks.
Arthur smiles. “Yes, and training in courtly etiquette. I imagine Ealdor doesn’t have nobles?”
“We don’t have nobles, but we do have pigs. And chickens,” Merlin says. When Arthur raises his eyebrows at him, Merlin flushes heavily with embarrassment. “Oh, shut up. My lord.”
“Don’t talk to your king like that,” Arthur says, but he doesn’t actually seem very upset about it, even though Merlin sort of wants to hit himself in the face. “Welcome to Camelot, sorcerer-apprentice Merlin of Ealdor.”
Or: Merlin is sixteen when he comes to Camelot, vying for the new position of court sorcerer that has opened under King Arthur—a noble king, golden and lionhearted, who is trying to legalise magic in all of Albion. Of course, Merlin doesn't expect to be chosen.
But he is.
