Bow quickly clutched her head as an explosion of pain erupted from her temple. She couldn’t focus on what Silver Spoon had said or what Cabby had said.
She stood up off of the ice cream container, trying to make sense of her surroundings. Cabby and Test Tube were talking, too much noise, it hurt her head even more.

Summary
Tommy was fairly certain bedrock was unbreakable, and even if it wasn't, there definitely wouldn't be a vast, unending void underneath that is actually a portal to a perfect world.
Grian was fairly certain things were only supposed to go in the Boatem Hole, not come out, and even if something did, it would be diamonds or a reward for their sacrifices or something that wasn't a random teenage boy.
To be fair, neither of them had put too much thought into it before. Maybe that excuses the reaction they had when their expectations were exceeded.

Scar lay on the floor, breathing hard. It hurt. Everything hurt. His muscles ached. His bones felt weird. His neck throbbed. The room seemed to spin slowly, though he doubted it was actually moving. When he tried to look around to see, though, the room was a disjointed, streaky mess. That spider- that spider had done something to him.
He had known it was a bad idea to check out the spider spawner. Especially alone. Especially after both Pearl and Grian had checked it out, and had barely escaped without being bitten. Especially when they had said that the spawner’s spiders looked weird.

“You’re wondering about the scars,” says Grian, quietly, out of the blue.
Mumbo freezes with his hands buried wrist-deep in Grian’s feathers, right at the point where all three sets of wings converge on his back. He’s supposed to be helping with Grian’s preening – though it’s devolved somewhat into petting. Devolved quite a lot into petting, now he thinks about it. Whoops. He doesn’t think he’s removed a loose feather or piece of dirt in at least five minutes.
It’s a privilege, he knows it is, to be invited to do this. To be allowed to touch the places Grian can’t reach. To be allowed to see Grian with his shirt off, his back turned, his wings spread wide and vulnerable. He shouldn’t be getting distracted by how soft the feathers are, this close to Grian’s spine. He should be focusing on his job.
(In which Mumbo helps Grian out with his wings, and learns a little more of his past in the process.)
