In nearly every way (except the most notable), the Princess of Hyrule was the Goddess incarnate. For that reason alone, it was a little ingenious for the King to offer up his daughter’s hand to whoever was able to pull the sword.
Link hadn’t meant to pull the sword. He planned to watch as his comrades pulled with all their might, perhaps even tease a few about how it was all for the better that the sword didn’t budge, because surely no Princess could ever love their ugly mugs, and then get into a good old-fashioned wrestling match with their bruised egos after one too many jokes. But it hadn’t mattered what he had in mind; Link’s plans be damned. The Goddess had already plucked him out of obscurity and set him along Her own path.

“My claim to Camelot’s throne,” Uther threw back, face growing more red as Arthur looked between his parents in utter bewilderment. Merlin didn’t blame him. He had envisioned Uther and Ygraine’s love story to be more… well, less based in war and battles.
Ygraine’s eyes narrowed as she grabbed a goblet of wine and threw it in Uther’s face. A few of the guards shifted, but Uther only raised a hand to pause them, spitting out the wine with furious eyes.
“You,” Ygraine said coldly. “Are unworthy to sit upon a stool, let alone a throne.”
From a few feet away, Balinor scoffed as he sipped from his own goblet. “I kind of like having her as a hostage, Uther. She livens up the place.”

He tried to make himself as comfortable as possible before he hesitantly put his hands up until they made contact with the cold sky. And then he put some effort behind it and suddenly he felt like something was trying to squash him into a two-dimensional character.
“What…?” The girl’s eyes opened a little and she turned her head just enough to look at Percy.
His vision was a little blurry from the exertion but he could tell she was baffled by his presence there. “You needed help,” was all he managed to say before he groaned in pain and closed his eyes tightly.”

Percy has no idea why Kronos and Luke do the things that they do, but he has no other options left, really. So he does as he's told (most of the time) and kind of just thinks there's nobody else he can turn to for answers.
Until he meets Annabeth and crouches down to help her carry the sky. Then things start to steer in the right direction, at long last.

As such, Damian did not cry as he walked towards the training mats, nor did he give off a single outward sign of the fire that was tearing through his abdomen with each and every step because he knew better than to show weakness like that.
Even without any evidence that there were other people here, Damian could not let up on his discipline at any point, not when Grandfather’s men could come and check his progress at any moment.
He steeled himself, knowing to expect the flare of pain that would no doubt come the very moment he starts his first kata but before he could get fully into position, an alert came through proclaiming that it was dinner time.

Robin slowly lowered the tablet with his powerpoint presentation and looked up at Red Hood.
“You care about Gotham,” Robin summarised. “Gotham needs Batman. Batman is missing and so is Nightwing. We need you to fill in for Batman.”
“You want me to cover Batman’s patrols?” Jason clarified.
“No,” Robin said. “I want you to be Batman.”
Jason bluescreened.
(Or: Batman and Nightwing mysteriously disappear before Red Hood has even started antagonising them, Robin is desperate, Gotham needs Batman, and Red Hood is Batman-Shaped.)
