Mori smiled, resting his chin on his steepled hands. “Name it.”
“Nakahara Chuuya.”
Four years of daylight was a long time, but it wasn’t enough to bleach the blood out of Dazai Osamu’s shadow. When he finally returns to the Port Mafia to broker a deal for the Agency's survival, he brings a very specific set of demands. Mori just wants his Demon Prodigy back. Chuuya just wants to know why the headache he's had for four years suddenly wears a familiar, obnoxious trench coat.

Chuuya wakes up like he’s been dropped back into his own body without warning.
Everything hurts. Everything is wrong.
There’s blood on his skin he can’t place, bruises he doesn’t remember earning, and a heavy, sinking feeling like he’s already lost something important—something he can’t even name.
His head is full of broken flashes. Red. Noise. Falling. Power tearing through him until there’s nothing left but static.
He doesn’t know where he is.
Doesn’t know who he is.
Just fragments that refuse to become anything solid.
His phone is in his hand like it’s always been there.
Names scroll past his thumb—Ane-san, Hirotsu-san, Boss—none of them meaning anything, none of them feeling real enough to hold onto.
His breathing goes uneven.
Too fast.
Too shallow.
Then he sees it.
Suicidal Manic.
No memory attached to it.
No face.
No explanation.
Just something in him going, this.
Wrong decision, probably.
Definitely.
But his thumb taps it anyway.
Because somehow—despite everything missing—that feels like the only thing that still makes sense.

It has nothing to do with Dazai. It shouldn’t bother him at all from a logical standpoint, but that doesn't stop the words from piercing straight through his heart. Something deep inside his chest clenches with tension, lungs too tight to breathe through, and he wants to pull his partner close and hold him until the world falls down around them.
“Chuuya,” he says, urgent, bringing his face up with a hand. “I’m always going to be there when you need me. I don’t care if we’re not working together anymore, or if we’re fighting for opposite sides. I will never let you die."

It might not kill him, but at least he’d miss the celebration. There would be punishment later, one that warranted a second hospital visit and left him hopped up on whatever cocktail of drugs would make him most obedient. He didn’t want that, but he thought of dragging himself into a ballroom full of people celebrating the murder of his only friend, plastering a smile across his face and flirting with whatever waitress would have him…
He’s thankful he hadn’t eaten anything since the curry with Odasaku, because otherwise he’d have thrown it up.
