Summary
“I brought the oranges, coach.” Robby is wearing his mirror sunglasses that make him look cool, dangerous, and like he is trying a little too hard for a guy his age. Jack loves it.
He pats Jack on the shoulder and steps around to set up his lawn chair. He likes to sit a little off the sideline to have a good view of the whole field. He also likes to have a good view of his husband’s ass as he strides up and down the pitch. The weather is warming as Pittsburgh thaws into spring, and Jack unearthed athletic shorts from the back of the closet. It’s Robby’s favorite time of year.
Jack coaches his niece's peewee soccer team, the Jackalopes.

Summary
Abbot lifted his head to look down at her. “See, that’s the post-traumatic stress. Something happens that your brain decides is a life or death situation. You have a massive adrenaline kick while it’s all happening, and then when it’s bleeding out of you on the comedown, your brain throws out anything that’s not completely vital. The amount of car crash patients we have who don’t even remember coming to the ER when they submit requests for their medical records for insurance… the brain’s a weird thing, Mohan.”
“Yeah,” she said, shooting him a look out of the side of her eyes. “It can even make you convinced you have to hurt yourself in order to seek external validation when the most logical course of action is rest.”
He snorted softly, shaking his head and leaning it back. “God,” he muttered, his cheeks stained pink. “Robby was right. You should have gone into psych.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A night shift from hell ends in Mohan giving Abbot a ride back to his place, where tensions finally boil over.
Summary
A juvenile presents to the Pitt with an infected laceration. When Robby goes to examine, he finds that it's not only infected, the leg is dead from the knee-down. He breaks the news to his religious mother, who takes out a gun and gives Dr. Robinavitch an ultimatum: either he fixes the leg without amputation, or he dies.
At home, Jack struggles with guilt after an argument with Robby the prior night. He doesn't have time to make a proper apology with their shifts, but at the very least, he can bring Robby lunch as a peace offering.
Summary
A challenge set by the author, for the author, to break out of writer's block. Fics are rough and barely edited, not beta'd, and are meant to be more of a creative exercise than a showcase of literary prowess. But the love of Springsteen is real and serious. Each individual fic is based on lyrics and/or vibes from a specific song, and may be expanded on in the future.
Summary
A good chunk of the Cardiology staff overheard the exact moment when Robby learned that he, Michael Robinavitch, M.D., was actually properly Michael Avraham Felip Robinavitch Bellpuig i Renaldi, Prince of the Blood and Duke of Castelcicciano, and the heir to the throne of the sovereign Kingdom of Vesperia and Its Islands.
Or, let's mash up The Pitt and The Princess Diaries.
Summary
“I appreciate you sharing that with me,” Robby slowly says, picking his words with care. “Objectively, and with love, that’s the saddest defense of therapy I’ve ever heard.”
“It worked. How about I buy you a drink after each session? The bar’s close to the therapist’s office.”
“You’ve got better things to do on your day off.”
“Not really,” Abbot says, and he smiles at Robby’s surprise. “The nachos aren’t half bad.”
---
After months of ducking and digging in heels, Robby finally starts seeing a therapist. Abbot's therapist. It's inadvisable, sure, but it seems to be working. At least, until their deepening relationship dredges up feelings which Abbot thought had died with his husband.Bookmarked by WanderBy
Summary
Robby sighed, and shook his head, hands scrubbing at his beard. “A wiser man would say that we’re using casual intimacy to hide from the emotional turmoil we should be working out in therapy,” Robby called out as Jack walked out the door.
The other man barked out a laugh. "Yeah, and when you find him, tell him I said hi."
(Or: Robby can't sleep, Jack decides to help. It goes exactly as well as you'd expect.)
Summary
"I'm going to miss you, when you leave for your sabbatical."
That's what almost makes Robby break. He laughs softly, awkwardly. His face probably looks flushed. "Brother, I—"
Jack pulls him into a hug, without asking for permission. His face is flushed against Robby's shoulder, probably smushed uncomfortably against the strap of his bag. It takes Robby a moment to realize what is happening, but he hugs back, one hand on Jack's back. His black shirt is sweaty, his back wet and warm, but it only makes him feel more real, human, underneath Robby's hand.
It takes a lot of strength to actually pull back.
or a take on season 2 featuring: robby's real plans for his sabbatical, the donorcycle, an accident, and reaching out for help.
Summary
Michael steps into his apartment red-eyed and groggy like a drunk the morning after a great night out. He freezes when he meets Jack’s eyes, his hand going slack, dropping from his neck to his side.
“Was getting kind of scared you weren’t coming back—“ the intrusion of Jack’s voice startles Michael out of his daze and he interjects without even a nod to what Jack might’ve been saying.
“—I’m so fucking glad you’re here.” Robby breathes, stumbling across the floor in his hospital shoes and crumbling into Jack’s arms. Not exactly a mirror of his earlier greeting to Jack when he'd showed up at the ED, go bag at the ready, as this picture shows a far less collected version of Dr. Michael Robinavitch.
Or,
As the dust begins to settle over the day from hell, Jack follows Robby home.
Summary
"You stumbled," Jack corrects him. An echo of their rooftop conversation, only instead of open air and concrete beneath him, a building that's seen life and death and life and death again, it's the blanketed silence of his bathroom, all gleaming white tile and discoloration threatening the corners that catch humidity and hold tight to it and morgue-bright lights. He kept them on. He stared up at the tiles, at their blankness, and had reminded himself over and over that he was home, not in Pedes, not with the bodies. The body.
The air is just as close as it was inside the suit, though humid with water, not with his own breath and tears and panic.
