(Written pre-Season 2, Middle Ages setting)
He would not go out this way, in a church basement, surrounded by humans, his body twisting into that of a monster. He would not. The universe could not have something so ignominious in mind for him.
Crowley could feel himself weakening, his tortured body wracked by spasms. His thoughts grew feverish with pain and desperation. They had bound his powers, cut him off from Hell’s aid. As if Hell would even aid him. They found failed demons a hilarious object lesson in not dropping your guard. Domovoi had been nipping at his heels wanting his Earth assignment for ages, and Underduke Dagon was yet to forgive him for the last helpful note he sent about soul contracts.
There was no one who cared if he lived or died, no one who cared for him enough to miss him—
Except Aziraphale.

After Armageddon't, Aziraphale and Crowley think they're safe.
They're wrong.
Aziraphale has heard stories of angels with their wings cut off, thrown into a sealed room and left to die. The rooms were soundproofed, because the inmates’ screams of agony were so horrifying that it was believed other angels would go insane just from hearing them.
But that was all rumour … wasn’t it?

Summary
After the Blitz, the 'lift home' missing scene - Aziraphale's introduction to and first ride in the Bentley go about as well as could be expected, and he’s left shaken (by that, and other revelations) to his very core.
At the bookshop, he finds out Crowley’s foxtrot over consecrated ground has not left him unscathed. Even with unresolved issues, can they possibly find a safe way forward after years apart? Of course they can, as long as they address absolutely nothing directly.
