Summary
On break from cleaning up the mercenary groups on Omega, Garrus visits his friend James Vega on the Citadel and meets an intriguing human woman in a coffee shop. While doing a standard security job for James as a favor, things go sideways quick and James tasks him with investigating what happened. As soon as the job is done though, he will be heading back to Omega.
Shepard has retired from military life and works as a manager at David Anderson's coffee shop, Normandy Coffee. When Anderson finally decides to retire, Shepard makes the decision to buy the cafe from him. In an effort to raise money to buy the cafe, Shepard accepts a job from James to help Garrus with the investigation.
As they spend more time together they can feel their attraction growing, but while Shepard's roots on the Citadel are only growing stronger, Garrus refuses to see his time on the Citadel as anything other than temporary.

Summary
The war is over and Shepard's still alive.
Except she doesn't really understand what war everyone is talking about, or who half of these people are... The last thing she does remember is the Normandy blowing up over Alchera. Which apparently was a few years ago, and things had changed a lot during that time. She doesn't even know which bothers her more: that everyone wants her to be someone she's not, or that Garrus has been strangely distant ever since she woke up...TL;DR: Shepard survives the Crucible but loses all her memories since Cerberus rebuilt her. Shakarian angst and regular angst, all mixed up together into a nice hurt/comfort cocktail. Despite the scary tags this has a happy ending.

Garrus didn’t sleep- he was still too wired- but it felt good to rest by himself for a moment. He tried to direct his thoughts to Haliat and a plan of action to take back the mako, but he couldn't concentrate. He tried to think about Saren, or about the Normandy. He even tried to focus on the ridiculous laughing fit he’d witnessed earlier that day, and Ashley’s embarrassment over her human bodily functions.
He was distracted even as the sun finally set. They executed Shepard’s plan flawlessly- they reclaimed the mako, killed Haliat and his mercs, and successfully signaled the Normandy for pick up. He should be focused on the victory of a job well done. But no matter what else was happening around him, one question just kept bludgeoning its way to the forefront of his mind for the rest of the day, and for many days afterward:
