Summary
Will couldn't count the times Mike had carried his bags and walked him to class and run up the stairs when Will called his name, like he was doing just now. He was all gangly arms catching on the doorframe, curls flopping over his head as he angled his head, shoulders heaving as he panted "Yeah? What do you need?" breathlessly, in that special Will-only voice Max had pointed out last week, ruining Will's night with the observation.
And so when Will said shyly "Can you get us some more blankets from the basement?" he knew Mike would reward him with a dazzling grin, like Will had done something right by asking him, by letting him walk up and down three flights of stairs just to bring Will blankets because he was cold.
Max was right, Mike did love to be needed. But she didn't know the whole story, because the rest of it was something Will kept very secret. The part Max didn't know was that, in a buried, dark, hungry way, Will loved needing Mike.
Or, Will worries he needs Mike too much. Max sees it differently.

“Noon,” Max corrected, as if she hadn’t only woken up thirty minutes before him.
“Wow,” he replied, squinting at the light. “Nobody thought to wake me?”
It happened casually after that, so casually it almost didn’t register at first. El laughed at something Lucas said, then turned toward Mike and leaned in, instinctively, easily, pressing a kiss to his lips like it was the most logical way to say good morning to him.

or: Mike and Will have been together for a year and a half when El comes back. The problem is, El assumes she and Mike are still together. The bigger problem is that Mike doesn’t realize Will thinks he might choose her.

Summary
For the rest of the day, Joyce spots him tidying parts of the house he usually doesn't. Like the throw blankets on the couch, which he folds carefully, and the kitchen table, which he clears and even cleans. Presumably also his room, (which shocked her the most), considering he keeps pacing in and out of there, a small nervous smile painting his features.
He seems fidgety and restless for the remaining hours until Mike is due to arrive, and she can't tell if he wants to throw up, yell in anger, or jump in excitement, because his smile keeps wavering.
She wonders if he's afraid of getting his hopes up- of getting too happy about Mike coming over, just for him to ditch him for the rest of the month.
Or: 3 times Will tells Joyce he won't fall in love, 1 time he tells her he can't, and another time she knows he can.

He hears Max scoff, and Jane’s little giggle from the side that he turns to them and raises his brow to question their reaction.
“You clearly weren’t looking enough Lucas” Max says, Jane nods in agreement and Lucas looks at both of them in disbelief before giving Dustin a look of ‘Are they serious?’ And only gives him a shrug back, also not clearly understanding what the two girls were saying, because he was also pretty sure that Mike was a little (read: massive) obsessive/possessive/protective over Will.
“What I’m trying to say is, Mike might be intense with Will, but Will was the one who conditioned that, like a little puppeteer running a puppet show” Oh. Oh. Sweet? Innocent? Kind Will? Grooming Mike to be this Mike?
“Like a puppy” Jane adds.

For a split moment, Will didn’t understand, the thought so far-fetched, improbable, and ridiculous that it didn’t even cross his mind, but then the realization hit him like a bucket of cold water being dumped over his head.

Summary
Jackson curled further into himself, eyes glued to his lap, and Will deflated some, forcing himself to calm down. Jackson didn’t want this. He didn’t want a scene. It was why Will had insisted he’d cover this, because he knew how much Mike hated dealing with asshole parents.
Maybe he should have let him take this one. Mike had practice dealing with this sort of thing, even if it was usually from the other side of the desk. Will had dealt with plenty of rude comments about how he was raising his son, sure, but it hadn’t given him thicker skin. It had worn away at him until he was sharp and angry, whirling around in supermarkets and snapping at the old ladies who’d mumble under their breath.
He was just- he was so tired. He was sick and tired of everybody else thinking they were entitled to saying this shit, just because he didn’t fit into some cookie cutter mold. He was tired of Jackson having to hear it, and Ceci. They shouldn’t have to.
Sometimes, Will wished he was normal, just so they could be too.
The circumstances through which Will became a father weren't conventional or ideal, but he would raze the Earth to the ground for his kids if he had to.

Summary
The door is slightly ajar, letting in soft light in the dark hallway. When he steps close enough, he finally gets a glimpse inside. He finds Mike in what looks like a nursery of some sort. He has his back turned to the doorway, his black shaggy mullet curling raven locks behind his ears, his black T-shirt covering broad shoulders where the Alpha has significantly filled out over the years.
When he gently turns around, a baby is resting on his shoulder. Mike has a gentle hand against her back, the other forearm keeping the baby upright, keeping her steady and safe against his chest. He’s pacing slowly– back and forth, in circles, rocking her a little in his arms.
Will steps forward a little too soon.
Or,I give Mike Wheeler a baby. Will promptly loses his mind.

Sure, Mike thinks, as if this hasn’t been embarrassing enough already. He can see it in Will’s eyes, that he knows what this is about and he’s daring Mike to ask it out loud for whatever reason. To let this personal humiliation ritual reach its full-circle moment, making it clear that Mike is disappointed that he’s not Will’s Valentine this year. He’ll get back at him for this, someday.
Mike takes a deep breath. “You know, every year you write me a Valentine’s Day card and every year you give it to me four days before I’m supposed to open it. Why not this year? Why didn’t you give me a card?” There. He said it. He asked him. Lucas’ leg taps up and down anxiously, eyes still focused elsewhere but clearly monitoring what Will has to say.
Will shrugs, casual as ever, “Why didn’t you give me a card?”
Mike blinks, “What?”
Will looks at him as if this had been obvious all along. “You’re right, Mike, every year I give you one and every year I receive nothing in return. I just thought you might not want one anymore.”

(But you know what helps? The fact that one of the astronauts on the ISS is actually really sweet and talks Mike through a panic attack he has on call with the ship. His name is Will, and he hums the ‘Star Trek’ theme song enough that half the people on that station want to kill him but don’t because he’s genuinely lovely. As time goes on, Mike looks forward to talking to Will more than anything else in his life and starts falling for the disembodied voice. And then he realizes that he knows Will. That he has for a very long time.)
