Now that Stede was a proper pirate and had abandoned his life of riches, it was time he started acting like one, raiding ships to make a name for himself.
They capture their first ship successfully, thanks to Ed’s training, but nothing in the world could prepare Stede for what he found among the loot - a decorated coffin and in it, was Ed.
“That’s not Ed, mate,” Oluwande informed.
Stede looks up through his sobs, “Are you sure?”
Meanwhile, Viago is just trying to discreetly shrink as far into the coffin as he could so the ray of sunshine doesn’t touch him.

“Make way for Blackbeard!”
The laughter broke off immediately; the deck fell into a hushed silence. The tension was so thick, Stede could barely breathe. A bead of sweat dripped down his spine.
Blackbeard.
They were joking. They had to be joking.
A thick, heavy fog had rolled onto the deck, despite the air having been so clear moments ago. It was like the sea breeze stopped. Like even the tides were waiting for Blackbeard’s appearance.
And did he appear.

Stede Bonnet was dead, and Ed felt absolutely nothing about it. Why should he, when Bonnet had felt nothing about him?
And yet all through the supply run, Ed’s chest felt tight and he was faintly nauseous. He couldn’t stop looking around, scanning the crowd for another glimpse of blond hair. He didn’t see one, because Stede Bonnet was dead, six feet under the ground in Barbados and nowhere near the Republic of Pirates.

Summary
Blackbeard kills kids.
Only the really naughty ones though, the ones who deserved it. That’s what Black Pete had said to Stede, only a few short days before their fated meeting with said infamous pirate captain. It hadn’t really processed at the time, just another barely believable description of the mythical man idolised by Stede’s fanciful employee. It isn’t true. It can’t be. The man standing in front of Stede now has only killed one person, he’d said as much.
But Stede had watched him order the deaths of men. Blackbeard may not have been the one to do it, but his body count was higher than a singular digit. He was perfectly capable of being the monster so many believed him to be.
Stede holds the wailing baby closer. He meets Ed’s expression with one that he hopes is defiant, or determined. Something strong.
“She’s coming with us,” he says and his tone is a challenge.

When a museum centered around Pirates and Historical Piracy opens up in his city, history professor Stede Bonnet is thrilled! He attends right away, delighted to find the museum home to kindred spirits in his interest in piracy. And when he meets Edward Teach, the owner and director of said museum, his life changes completely. The companionship they strike up is so easy that he almost feels like he's known Ed his whole life.
Who knew a museum full of old rotting wood could change his life so completely?
