Summary
Nearly a year after stopping the Apocalypse, Dean and Cas get sucked back into the war between Heaven and Hell. Raphael wants to free Michael and Lucifer from the Cage, but someone has stolen Heaven's Arsenal, and the former Quartermaster is out for blood. Meanwhile, artifacts so powerful that they pose a threat to the Host are scattered across the continent, and whoever collects the most wins.

No, the second Dean had caught himself thinking about food processors and beach holidays, he should have fucking known his happy ending would turn around and kick him in his fucking teeth. And now it has, and they’re supposed to get on a damn plane and put on monkey suits and have Christmas dinner at Lord and Lady Bevell’s, and Dean just can’t - he can’t face it, he can’t breathe, he can’t even see through the injustice of it all, because Cas - Cas -
Tell me why. I deserve that much, at least.
An alternate take of season 12 set in the Florentine winter. Canon-compliant (98%), painful as hell, and - hopefully - also a story about the beauty and mystery and resilience of the human soul - and the brutal, undying strength of true love.

Summary
In the spring of 1944, the 104th Medical Battalion of the United States Army is disbanded, and its men reassigned to various infantry companies in preparation for their invasion of occupied France. For First Lieutenant Novak, this is less than helpful, as he has so far met his platoon’s designated medic a grand total of twice, and has both times found Sergeant Winchester to be the optimum combination of reckless, arrogant, and downright insufferable so as to make cohesive platoon function near impossible. When the time comes to move out, however, Castiel has to reconcile himself to the fact that men are going to go down and trust that Dean Winchester may well be the only person who can put them back together again. Summary
Dean reaches out, ignoring the warning hisses, and strokes his fingers down the bridge of Castiel’s nose and between his eyes. It takes a few seconds, but the hissing quiets and Castiel’s eyelids lower, though he’s still glaring.
This is the only way Dean has learned to calm Cas down, and he will swear to Sam until his dying day that he didn’t learn it off of YouTube videos of cockatoos.
(Well, this and a spoon of peanut butter. But he thinks that that is even less dignified.)
Or, the one where Dean isn't the Michael Sword, Cas is an as-of-yet unidentifiable bird monster thing who's more interested in grooming his humans than trying to eat them, Bobby takes up baking as a means to cope with his new housemate, and Sam is long-suffering.

They hate Sam's temper and John's alcoholism and Dean's interminable silence. Castiel is just getting a handle on the whole free will thing, but he's beginning to suspect that he might feel a little bit differently, and the more he learns about the Winchesters, the more he understands that the entire town couldn't hate Dean's silence half as much as Dean himself hates his own words. This story was inspired by the thought of Prince William of Wales (and indeed the current Max von Hapsburg) studying at the University of St Andrews; it is also, as the title suggests, at least a little inspired by the operetta 'The Student Prince'.
