‘Shit,’ Steve says, takes a single step back, swallows. ‘Eddie, I’m so sorry, fuck.’
Eddie can’t seem to look away, can’t bring his ethereal gaze back up where it belongs. Steve thinks he should run, he should flee. A tiny part of him knows Eddie will chase him. Eddie will catch him, outrun him easily.
It's more than a little fucked up how that thrills him.

Richie doesn’t know what he’s going to say until he’s saying it, words tripping out of his mouth like, “Eddie Kaspbrak, right?"
Eddie squints up at him, mouth pinched, before he says, “Edward. Only my friends call me Eddie. Do I know you?”
“Yeah, uh,” Richie clears his throat. Fuck. “Well, sort of? We went to school together.”
“I think I would remember that.”
Or, Richie's thirty-four when he's dragged back to Derry to visit his shitty grandmother, returns to New York, and starts making mistakes.
Or, Richie's on SNL, Eddie's on the subway, and Eddie isn't someone Richie wants to forget.

He thought about how far into the drive his first exit would be. He thought about Opal, who had hidden herself in the enthusiastic buttonbush that grew alongside the house; she had taken to crouching there whenever it looked like Adam and Ronan were doing things related to Leaving, and had gnawed an entire branch clean. She watched them as they swayed and whispered, and Adam had thought she would stay in the bush and not come see him at all, but he was wrong: at the last minute she had been unable to stand it, and had burst out to wrap herself around his legs.
It was impossible to leave them.
He had gotten in the car.
Adam leaves for college, and realizes he has no idea what comes next.

In the yellow kitchen light Richie catches the remnants of blood on his chin.
