Instead of taking his vows to join the Nights Watch instead Jon Snow travels back north with Tyrion Lannister. On their journey to Kings Landing they are ambushed by Caitlyn who has accused Tyrion of sending an assassin to kill Bran. Tyrion calls for trial by combat. Jon fights for Tyrion as resentment for how Caitlyn treated him all his life. After winning the trial Jon makes it to Kings Landing just in time to save Ned. They flee with his sisters across the Narrow Sea because travelling North was far too dangerous. When they arrive in Essos Ned reveals the truth to Jon and from there Jon is forced to find his father's only living family.
