Summary
And Lucy Gray realizes – she’s not just a songbird in a cage.
She’s a songbird that allowed herself to get caught.
In the end, it comes down to this:
A boy and a girl sitting in the dark, their love hanging like a shadow between them.
“Come with me,” the boy pleads, as if this were a fairy-tale, a happy story, a lullaby. “Come with me.”
Or: Lucy Gray returns to the Capitol with Snow.

Summary
He opens his eyes in the dim light. The sun hasn’t risen yet, but Sejanus is kneeling at his bedside, his wide brown eyes urgent and imploring. A muddied mix of affection and annoyance washes over him. Can’t Sejanus let him sleep for a few more minutes? Doesn’t he know Coriolanus hasn’t been sleeping well?
“Coryo, you have to go now. Lucy Gray is waiting for you.”
It all comes rushing back to him. The jabberjay. The confession. The guns. The murders. Lucy Gray, their plan to run away. The hanging tree — the hanging — Sejanus.
Sejanus.
Coriolanus killed his best friend. Sejanus haunts him until the day he dies.

Watching Patrick serve, the ferocity in it, how alive he still felt across from him—no, Patrick isn’t dead to him, and Art isn’t dead inside at all. Miraculously, Patrick has managed to harness that spirit still flickering deep within, the one that’s been wilting, that dying spark.
Afterward, in the hotel room, there’s a shift.

“You can stay in our guesthouse,” Tashi says finally.
Patrick stares. “Your guesthouse?”
“Yes. Temporarily, yes.”
“Why do you have a guesthouse?”
“Because my parents use it when they visit, and because we’re rich as fuck, Patrick.”
“But — ” He doesn’t want to ask. But he’s kind of a glutton for punishment, and besides, he needs to know. “Is Art going to be okay with that?”
For a long moment, Tashi’s narrowed gaze flickers across Patrick’s face. Then she lets out a disbelieving snort and shakes her head. “I’ll send you the address.”
And before Patrick can protest, she turns and walks away from him.

“Fuck you, dude,” Patrick says, though there’s no real heat behind it. “Sit on it and spin.”
Art stares longingly at his tanned back. You don’t have to ask me twice, he thinks.

Summary
'Touching and caressing and kissing, evidently, was just how Patrick showed his affection. Maybe it was because he hadn’t gotten enough of it from his own family, who knows? Art had gotten used to it. But he was also more than aware of how it looked to the outside world, and he had done his best to keep these friendly gestures to the confines of their own private spaces. Art had always been the one to put up boundaries, to make sure that everyone else knew – including himself, sometimes – that nothing gay was going on. They were just friends.'
A look at Art and Patrick's time as roommates at the Mark Rebellato Tennis Academy, as Art contemplates his relationship with Patrick, his sexuality, and the convergence of those two.

“Have you read this?”
Tashi doesn’t raise a brow but she does level him with a look. The look says that if she wanted to exert more than an iota of effort into this conversation, she would raise a brow. “Did you buy,” she drawls, still tapping out a rhythm on her laptop, “a teen magazine?”
“It’s GQ,” Art says. There’s a beat. “Tashi.”

Summary
They’re fifteen the first time Patrick asks Art if he’s fucked anyone, and Art looks at him, and scoffs, and says, “You know nobody looks at me like that when we’re here.”
Patrick doesn’t think that’s true, but he can’t figure out a way to shape his mouth around that whilst also holding onto the smile that’s almost-permanent when he’s looking at Art.
Instead, he says, “I mean, doesn’t have to be a tennis girl.”
Art gives him that look he gets sometimes, like he’s exasperated and hopelessly endeared at once. Like Patrick has said something completely incomprehensible, but Art can’t help but stay and talk to him anyway.
“Who else would I do that with?” Art asks.
Patrick has nothing to say.
That’s the thing about Patrick Zweig. All he does is want. He doesn’t know how to stop.

“This is so sad,” Art says, shaking his head – but then he grins, the first genuine smile Patrick’s seen all night. It’s so warm and familiar that Patrick forgets for a second, that he’s nothing and they’re nothing, that the slight November chill is making them both shiver.

“I was busy," Art says. "I was on the court literally the entire day. Sorry I don’t have time to cater to your every bullshit need.”
“Tashi isn’t my girlfriend. Is that what you wanted to hear?”
At last, their eyes meet. The sobering, thoughtful blue of Patrick’s gaze is so disarming that it feels like Art is talking to a different person.
Patrick visits Stanford and makes it pretty evident he's there for Tashi more than Art. Art is trying really hard not to care about it.
