Lily Potter was dead.
And, deep on his heart, he knew James' lifeless form would be resting on the bottom of the stairs.
Fate was as cruel as life was, and apparently took great joy in making his life miserable. On the day of their marriage anniversary, even.
But looking down, he knew he had a reason to keep going.
No, scratch that, he had two reasons to keep going - even if he wasn't as strong and brave as his partners were.

Summary
The battle of Hogwarts is over and Hermione Granger is ready to take a well-deserved break when she is suddenly flung back in time. She promptly gives a much younger Dumbledore all the information he could possibly need to locate and destroy the horcruxes, and hopefully halt Voledmort's rise to power.
