“still, i’ve brought something to cheer you up,” tsukasa says, but he doesn’t act. he doesn’t even put any wretched distance between them. he stays, right there, close enough to lean into rui’s side if he truly wanted to.
rui hopes to the heavens above that hurried heartbeat thumps quiet.
he exhales through his nose, quick. the air he expels is no match for the humid room. it fizzles out, melts without a trace.
“come on rui, the rain’s stopped!”

when plans to watch the fireworks at a sumner festival fall through, tsukasa’s there to cheer rui up :)

turning the stove off, tsukasa turns away from the counter to untie his apron, calling out to rui as he does so.
“rui, nene told me to come in,” he announces, hanging the apron on a hook next to the kitchen’s doorway. he glances over his shoulder to double check that the stove is properly turned off before speaking again. “you’d better not be tracking water everywhere again!”
“tsukasa-kun,” rui calls back sweetly, followed by the sound of excited footsteps out of the shower. tsukasa stifles a laugh into his hand as he walks down the hall towards his room, already expecting water to be all over the floors. rui’s voice gets louder as he strides closer, “i didn’t think you’d be here so quickly.”
“hey, did you listen to a thing i said?” tsukasa crosses his arms at the water droplets on the floor, coming to a stop when he’s in front of rui’s room.

through small snippets of summer’s stolen glances and smiles, rui becomes entranced.

“tsukasa-kun,” rui calls out again after another a minute of silence. “come into the water, at least. the weather is especially hot today, i’m sure of it.”
tsukasa doesn’t even bat him an eye. “actually, it’s quite nice here in the shade.”
“come on, tsukasa-kun!” rui gathers two handfuls of pool water in the palms of his hands and swings it towards the lounge chair where tsukasa was once comfortably sitting on. the water lands on his knee with a splash. “i’ll stop bothering you after, pinky promise,” rui asks as politely as he can, blinking amiably as he waits.
tsukasa sighs, long and loudly, always so dramatically as he ignores his quickened heartbeat, “you never do, you know,” he grumbles under his breath, but he finally slots in his bookmark, puts the book down and sits upright.

summer is here, and tsukasa finds himself warmer than usual, despite being once unaffected by the heat. rui doesn’t make it any better.

however, in the fleeting silence that rui took to answer, tsukasa wondered if this blinking being before him had finally succumbed to heat stroke. “did the heat wave finally get to you? i told you to pack more water for this weather, you know.”
however, the serene expression gracing rui’s face said nothing of an individual who had fell to heat stroke, so tsukasa crouches to his level and eyes him up and down with more scrutiny.
rui tilts his head. “why, is tsukasa-kun worried about me?”
“..you didn’t even answer my question!”
he laughs, catching tsukasa off guard and giving no room for tsukasa to hide the red that blooms on his face, now that he’s face to face with rui, squatting on the sand as well.

under the setting sun, rui finds a pair of stones that share the same colour as his eyes and tsukasa’s.
or : rui stands in the same position all afternoon and procures two stones . intense pining follows

tsukasa withdraws his hand, feeling the drops of seawater cling to his skin, but yellow eyes stare it delicately like he’s inspecting a fine gem.
“thank you,” he whispers after, not knowing what to say to fill this silence. he looks down at the reunited glove pair in a way to express his gratitude, but the stranger stares at him, looking expressionless.
“you’re welcome,” he replies, voice smooth and soft, and in a flash, any trance of him is gone, tail flicking out of the water, but this time tsukasa’s throat goes dry.
it was a tail, no doubt about it! the same tail he saw all those years ago!
pressing the gloves to his chest, he sprints all the way back to the castle, relentless and uncaring of how ridiculous he looked.

in which tsukasa discovers the same merman he saw as a child :D
they exchange gifts, until he realises the meaning behind them in merfolk culture

After a certain fateful day, things have greatly changed within Wonderlands ⨉ Showtime. Among those changes is that Tsukasa and Rui have become a couple! Both have been the happiest ever since. Or so it seems at least.
Neither of them fully realise the great obstacle in their relationship yet...

That wasn’t Tsukasa’s issue. No, it was rather the boy sitting directly across from him, who bore the same features, but much sharper eyes, piercing his skin with yellow hues that told him to back out of the project then and there.
“Tsukasa Tenma, lead model of the project and representative of Eternals. It’s a pleasure to meet the both of you.”
“Rui Kamishiro, head of the technological advancements department at Kamiros Labs. It’s nice to meet you as well, Tenma-san.”
Tsukasa gulped, shifting his gaze away. But no matter how hard he looked away, he knew he couldn’t run any longer. This was no longer a cruel trick played on him by the Sekai. This was the real deal, and maybe there were some underlying problems that needed to be handled first.
