Otherwise known as when Scar takes in yet another stray in the form of a traumatised, recently ex-cultist Grian, and Mumbo doesn’t exactly approve...at first. Somehow, though, the prickly avian manages to worm his way into both of their hearts.

“No, it’s like, I get it, right?” Scar picks up steam. “I do. I’m good at feelings and good at sex but not good enough for dating. And, you know, I should’ve gotten over this years ago, because it’s only my fault we’re in the situation in the first place, but God, Cub. I get so sick of being second place, a participation trophy. And I know you’re right, okay, I know he’s not good for me when I’m being like this, but you don’t get it, I can’t give him up. He’s all I want. They’re both all I want! And they’ve picked each other.”
Or: Mumbo and Grian start dating after years of pining. Their shared friend with benefits, Scar, is doing his damnedest to be happy for them. Little does he know how very much Mumbo and Grian want to get rid of the friend part entirely, and switch it to something a little more romantic.

“Now what the hell is a dragon rider doing here, all the way in The Outskirts?” Bdubs asked, his sudden appearance making the stranger jump slightly. But he recovered quickly, his eyes narrowing. “My apologies, I didn’t think anyone was around… Listen, if you could keep all of this- all of what you saw -to yourself, that’d be much appreciated.” he said it with a firmness in his tone. Bdubs had a feeling that if he blabbed, he might mysteriously disappear, or something like that. Suddenly, he understood why no one knew there was a new dragon rider in the lands. The last time one was around, everyone knew about them. From the very edge of The Outskirts to the center of The High Kingdom- they were revered and beloved, a status practically as high as royalty.
Bdubs held his hands up as if surrendering. “I won’t say a word, swear.” he said with a wink.

Summary
He tugged at his fingerless gloves, quickly taking them off and walking over to a closet. That’s when he noticed the red staining the floor, drops from a leak.
He swung the door open, revealing his worst worries.
Scar, his partner, was dripping bright crimson blood. His mousy-brown hair was tousled and sticky. Clumps of dark liquid covered his skin, staining his scars and bleeding from new ones.
His eyes were lidded in exhaustion, brows furrowed as he desperately tried to wrap himself up with shaking hands.

His mind goes blank as he processes the proximity, He is So Close and Scar can feel himself burning up. His legs are slotted in between Tricksters and his arm is being tugged up to rest beside his head, effectively angling Scar so he almost completely conceals him from the entrance of the alleyway.

The Being finally blinks as if just remembering how, eyes piercing into Grian’s soul from the other side of the room.
Is this fine? To lie to Something like It?
It’s hardly a lie, Grian thinks, hands still feeling the weight of black blood on his hands as he tightened the last of the gauze around a stranger’s shoulder. Merely a thin veil in front of the real truth.
Another blink. Another eternity of fear seeping into Grian’s body.
A warm smile splits across Its face and the tension bleeds only partly. “Well why didn’t you say so?"
⟢ On the outskirts of a war, Grian shoots something not quite man. Against his better judgment he takes It home.

Summary
Etho reaches out and grabs it carefully, holding the sword between his fingers without letting the blade touch his palm. Not that it would matter if Bdubs decided to attack - it’s still aimed upward, toward Etho's heart, so slicing a hand would be the least of his worries. The sword is a little warm where one side had rested against Bdubs' leg.
"Just being honest." Face partially covered, he wears his smile in the looseness of his shoulders, the casual lean in his stance. "I thought you liked messing around, but I guess I was wrong."
A series of semi-connected oneshots centered around Etho and Bdubs from the earliest days, if they'd been a little bolder.

Summary
His hands do not tremble when he pours out the salt. It's to be expected of course, because Grian has been doing it for ages by now, but in the quiet of the room, it feels significant.
"Scar." He does his best to keep his voice as steady as his hands, but it cracks near the end - a slight drawn-out r that nearly makes him frown. He's over this. He has to be, because there is only so much hurt his heart can take before it breaks into two identical parts. (One into his chest, and the other-)
No answer.
"Scar, I need you." A beat of silence. "Please."
The air fills with sulfur, and the smell Grian has come to associate with Scar, old wood thrown into the fire, ashes, and sugar makes his head spin. He doesn't have to open his eyes to know his wish has been granted.
"Well, hello there." His voice is the same as ever, warm and syrupy, honey trap for the unaware. His words are teasing, his tone familiar, and for an instant, a single second that makes his breath hitch, Grian can imagine it's his Scar standing in front of him.
He opens his eyes and stares coldly at the demon trapped in the circle of salt.

Summary
His words are rewarded with a laugh. It's a wild and hungry thing, the sound of faraway bells chiming in tandem. The corner of Grian's eyes crinkle, pink lips stretching into a satisfied smile, and Scar has to wet his own, overcome with the dizzying desire to consume.
Sandy brown hair dips into the cover of his shoulder, a whisper so close to his ear Scar cannot stop a shiver. "Are you loyal to the king?"
It makes him smile, sharp and slow, showing all of his razor-edged teeth as he whispers in kind. "Ah, but I promised him, the King, that I'll remain loyal to the end of my days." Dark eyes delight in the deception, pupils growing wide in half-hidden interest.
Loyal... Scar had never bothered precising to whom.
Royal Advisor Scar meets foreign Fae 'King' Grian. It never felt so good to burn.

It was late and those from Empires had finally dispersed away and out from the Rift. Scar had headed home around the same time as the rest of the Hermits, most eager to return home after being away for so long. It was hard to admit how good it felt to be back. Like a favorite pair of old pants that had gone missing for a while and then discovering that they still fit just as well as the day you lost them.
Scar had made it back to his base with ease, with it being so near the Rift. He had been all settled for his first night back home. The Hermit had been actually picking up a late-night snack before heading to bed, having misses his elvish cookies while away.
Well, he HAD been getting ready to call it a day when Jimmy landed fairly unceremoniously onto a balcony that overlooked the center of his small town. "Have you seen Grian?"
