The true reason for her being in Mystic Falls would be lost on her mother otherwise, for how could she explain that the town's quiet life was far easier on her newly heightened senses than the busy life of New York? How could she explain that in Mystic Falls she could breathe in the fresh crisp air on a walk without inhaling twenty people's scent of blood? No, it was better that her mother believed that Mystic Falls was perfect for all the reasons it was not.
And for a short time, the town truly was heaven-like.

For 36 days, 864 hours or 51840 minutes, she has been hijacking Lucrezia Gilbert's body. So far, her family hasn't noticed the change. She doesn't know whether to be offended in behalf of the poor girl or relieved.
Forced to play a role amongst people she hadn't even considered real, she does what Lucrezia does best: she studies, goes to practice, hangs out with friends, makes a few "lucky" investments and prepares in advance for her SATs while ignoring the blood stains. She didn't want to ruin the girl's life if things ever went back to normal.
Besides, what else is she supposed to do against an unstoppable force like Klaus? Ask nicely? Sacrifice herself for fictional characters? They might be kind people, but truth be told, she doesn't care enough to die for them. While they fight over supernatural and romantic drama, she just wants to make it out alive from this freakshow.
