Juvia's face flamed crimson, her mind stuttering over his words. "I- what? I'm offering myself as the sacrifice you-" She faltered, her voice growing loud enough to draw the attention of a hound.
"Is that what you've wanted this entire time? An opportunity to-to corrupt a nun for your own personal needs?"
He laughed- actually laughed- the sound rich and genuine and somehow more unsettling than his threats. "Oh, sweetheart. No." He moved closer and Juvia fought the urge to retreat, holding her ground even as her heart hammered. "We actually kill them. Drain their blood until there's nothing left but a husk. The whole corruption thing?" He leaned in, his voice dropping to something dark and intimate that it made her shiver. "That's just a pleasant way to pass the time until midnight."

When a vampire coven comes to collect their century-old debt with her convent, Juvia, a nun volunteers alone to protect her sisters, only to discover he wants something far worse than her blood.

“I have to go to a wedding,” he says, voice tight. Eddie’s eyebrows scrunch in confusion. That’s it?
“You love weddings.”
“Not this one. It’s in Pennsylvania. With my mom and dad. For a whole week,” he says, frustration evident in his tone.
Well that makes a lot more sense. Buck at home for a whole week? Brutal.
“Maddie, Chim and Jee are going, right?” Eddie asks.
Buck nods jerkily. “Mmhm. They are. I-It’s just that my parents are expecting me to bring someone and when I don’t, because who the fuck would I ask to suffer for a week for me, they’re going to make comments about how I am going to be alone forever and it-it’s just already on my nerves and I still have nearly three weeks before I even have to go,” he rushes out, abandoning his coffee on the table as he paces back and forth in the kitchen.
“I’ll come with you,” Eddie offers. He blinks – he hadn’t exactly thought that one through, but he doesn’t regret it, doesn’t want to take it back. Buck freezes where he’s at, body still as a statue as his head whips to look at Eddie.

Ravi glares at him, and then understanding dawns upon his face. “Which I was not supposed to tell you about,” he blushes scarlet. “Point fifty-four. Right.”

except, as it turns out, falling apart happens in increments, and healing does, too: it happens when you gnaw a hole in your lip trying to keep quiet only to have the words escape; when you realize that the ghost you've been seeing out of the corner of your eye is yourself; when your best friend smiles, and you allow it to take your breath away.
