Summary
She recognized the lust in his gaze just as he darted forward, his hands framing her face and pushing her into the apartment while his lips descended on hers hungrily. Her brain stopped working the moment she could feel the softness of his lips against hers, and in the back of her mind she registered the loud bang of the front door being thrown shut behind him, together with the clang of his keys hitting the ground.

“I just need a little break from all these papers. My head’s starting to hurt a little,” he explained, and he could watch as the wrinkle on her forehead got bigger.
“Did you drink enough today?” She questioned him as she stepped closer, reaching her hand out towards him, but then stopped and pulled it back.
He hated her hesitance these days, and while he knew it was mostly because of the pandemic, it still hurt to see her distancing herself from him.Bookmarked by els56

Sylvie closed her eyes for a second, taking a few deep breaths herself in an attempt to ignore the searing pain against her hip and her chest. She couldn’t afford to freak out too. Mackey looked up to her, and she needed to be strong for the young woman.
Right before she opened her eyes again, she heard the faint shouting of her name coming from the distance. She would recognize his voice out of a million, and relief washed through her. Matt would get them out of there. He was always there when she needed him the most.Bookmarked by els56

Summary
The building looked like it could be blown over with a stiff breeze. Many of the windows were broken, and the façade crumbled if you looked at it the wrong way. They could only guess that the inside was in just as poor of condition as the outside, which didn’t make any of the first responders very comfortable walking into the structure, especially one that could have a fire raging inside.
Before he completely disappeared into the unstable building, Matt sent a quick look to Sylvie, nodding that he would be safe.
As she did each time, she watched her husband go headfirst into a fire, Sylvie held her breath a little longer and said a silent prayer that everything would be okay and that he would come out to her safely.Bookmarked by els56

[Casey/Brett] [post 809]
Fed up with their stagnant love lives, Matt Casey & Sylvie Brett make a deal."I'm curious, if you're done with blind dating then how are you going to find all these dates you keep talking about?" He asks, sensing they need a shift in topic.
"That's an excellent question. The idea of bar hopping makes me want to throw myself out of this moving truck. Speed dating would be a waste of my time. Clearly, I can't trust Foster's taste after tonight. I guess...well, I guess there's always online dating," she says as she ticks off all of her options.
"Online dating?" If he sounds skeptical, it's because he is skeptical.
"Yeah, but one of those legitimate websites with huge personality assessments. Absolutely no swiping. Swiping is gross." She freezes and then gasps suddenly, grabbing his shoulder as she angles herself to face him. "You should sign up too! Oh, we could do this online dating thing together! You know, check in with each other? This would be nowhere near as nerve racking with a buddy! Plus, we can hold each other accountable. Like those meetings diet groups have?"
"You can't be serious," he says as he turns down her street.

Summary
Emily Foster’s last shift with 51 ended that morning. Immediately afterward, Foster, Brett, and Kidd left for Severide’s cabin. Tomorrow night Herrmann would be throwing her a goodbye party at Molly’s and then the night after that, her actual last night in Chicago, Foster and Sylvie would be hanging out alone. Tonight, Matt knew, would be about the three women of 51 letting loose and likely getting drunk off of their asses. Tonight wasn’t for lifelong memories.
Because of that, he’s glad they opted for Kelly’s cabin instead of bars or the nightclub scene. He knows it isn’t technically his place but he still would have worried about a drunk Sylvie ending up in a precarious situation. He also knows Sylvie is more than capable of taking care of herself. She’s proved that time and time again, but worrying is in Casey’s nature -- especially when it comes to people he cares about.

Summary
Panic. It’s all she feels as the Mayday call sounds over the radios. She’s a professional and panic shouldn’t even be an option.
But it’s Matt Casey.
Pragmatism and logic don’t stand a chance against everything she feels for him.
It was supposed to be a simple call. A wellness check with a forced entry. But she knew Matt well enough by now to sense the trepidation in his voice as he reported in. Something wasn’t right and he felt it keenly. He has good instincts so even before the Mayday her anxiety was on high alert.
“Mayday! Mayday! Shots Fired! Firefighter down!”

Summary
After nearly two years of mutual pining and struggles with insecurities and self doubt (and a long stint where Casey worked his ass off to woo her), things with Sylvie had finally fallen into place. Their first date took place discreetly, which was no easy feat, and was one of the most carefree nights Casey had ever had in his life.
What he has with Sylvie isn’t fireworks and explosions. It’s something effortlessly magical and a great deal more sustainable — warmly glowing with slow burning embers that keep you satisfied and safe. It’s not a passion that burns down the house with its heat, but an abiding and deep affection that lights your way and helps you find your path.
It has permanence.
Stability.

Summary
Sylvie waits at the table for a half hour before Matt finally walks through the door. She smirks at him and shakes her head as he slides into the booth across from her. She should be at least a little frustrated with him, but her wait gave her time to think.
Today was an awful day and she needs cheering up. They both do. She has a plan and Matt being late gives her the leverage she needs to make him join her.

Summary
He doesn’t want to be asked questions he can’t answer. Is that so wrong? Yes, okay, he and Brett talk a lot. More and more frequently as time goes on, actually. But he doesn’t know what that means to her. He’s come to terms with what he feels for Sylvie. He knows it’s not platonic. He crossed that line a long time ago. The problem is that accepting what he feels and doing something about it are two separate issues.
She’s been through a lot this year and the last thing he would want is to pile on. Plus, if he makes a move and she doesn’t have feelings for him then their friendship might never be the same. He likely wouldn’t get to be there for her like he has been lately and it’s important to him to be able to support her. He’d rather maintain the status quo than push the envelope and lose her.
